I'm reading through tweets about today's Republican caucuses in Missouri and it looks like a statewide clusterfuck. Here are samples of today's chaos.

The rules as written have PASSED by half of a vote. Seriously. 1/2 of a vote. 128.5 required to reconsider the rules. #MoCaucus

(34,179 posts)And since this is with a contentious Republic crowd, no wonder it is frigging nuts. Of course these are the same idiot 'Pugs who cost our state seven million dollars by having a meaningless primary just a few weeks ago.
Perhaps the entire mess will get tossed out.

Cassville, Mo., is a little town on the edge of the Ozark Mountains. During the Civil War, the Confederate state legislature convened here. Tuesday, the Republican presidential caucus was the big draw. Most of the rest of the state will hold its caucuses Saturday morning.
Confusion On Caucus Night
The first caucus was a messy process. More than 250 people showed up, most planning to vote directly for the candidates. That was not to be.
David Cole, the chairman of the Missouri Republican Party, told caucus-goers that they would be voting on delegates to attend district and state conventions. Those meetings are weeks from now, where Missouri's actual voting delegates will be decided. The delegates picked in this caucus won't be bound to any particular candidate, and they have to be elected in slates.
The county GOP happened to have a slate prepared, as did the Tea Party. But most folks were blindsided by the rules. Cole apologized to the angry crowd that they weren't aware of the process.

(70,695 posts)And I realize that it was a product of the '60s/'70s progressivism and McGOVERN.
But it is primitive: Do I WANT to meet with SOME people in my precinct and, not discuss but, JUSTIFY my vote. My vote is my choice and by the time I get there to cast my choice I don't want to be lobbied. Besides, having people from my neighborhood gaining access to what I'm voting?!1 Hades, NO!1
It reduces the number of people voting because some/many/lots of people just do not want to participate in this circus. What happens to the secret ballot? What happens with publicizing to your boss or other neighbor who disagrees with your choice what your choice is? And just on a personal level as an Introvert (or "anti-social" if you will), why should I have to perform in a circus act just to cast my vote?
One person/one vote; secret ballot - that's democracy. Regional primaries, then national run-offs. Oh, and shitcanning the Electoral College.
Whew!1 Hookay, I'm settling down now.
