I suspect that all of the over the top craziness from the right is with an

ulterior motive. They are intentionally sabotaging the election so that Jeb Bush can run in 2016. If they were to have a winning candidate in 2012, that person would want to run for reelection in 2016, thereby pushing out Jeb. I know it seems far fetched but I don't trust anything they do. BTW, Newt did not get the memo. The wonderful thing is that Obama is going to kick the butt of whomever they push.

2. If that is their angle I think they are going to be very disapointed...

Four more years of GOP crazy and I don't think they could win any kind of election. Except for maybe who is the most insane. I think they are heading for the point of no return. They have gone so insane that I have doubts they will keep the House. Forget the Senate, they have lost that.

3. We're just seeing the true crazies now

I've been thinking about this a lot, since this barrage of insanity makes no real sense - the Republicans obviously must be aware of how disastrous playing this angle will end up being.

I think the reality is not that this is a deliberate strategy, but that you're now seeing the dissolution of the power brokers and kingmakers of the Republican party. Put another way, the religious right has ALWAYS been this whackball, the libertarians have always been this selfish and self-focused. However, what's lacking this time around is that the moneyed interests of the Republican side have, until comparatively recently, been able to pay enough money into the system to hide the crazies behind a veneer of respectability, to keep people from realizing that the message that the candidates to their dominionist supporters was radically different from what got presented to the general public. Now, whether its because of the Internet, or more likely because a great number of wealthy supporters got hammered financially during the recent recession, they can no longer cover up the extremists. The restraint is now off, and without that restraint that encouraged not going too far out on a limb, all of the extremists are coming into the open with their agendas, thinking that everyone else of course believes the way they do (how could they not, there's only one way you CAN believe in their eyes).

One of the most obvious consequences of this is that in many of the states where the extremists have taken over the legislature, they've suddenly become visible right before an election. This means that people who would ordinarily be fairly apathetic are realizing that if they don't do something, their state will become part of the American Taliban. This means that there are going to be a lot of people coming to the polls who probably wouldn't otherwise, and they will be more likely to vote Democrat, even if they are moderate Republicans.

It's the only thing that makes sense. There is no master plan here - for the first time in a long while there is in fact no master plan in place, and the inmates are now trying to run the prison.

By 2016 we will have a BIG majority in the Congress and Senate, so little Jebby won't be able to pass anything if that nightmare happens. And these wars for the most part are being played in states where they could get ousted this November.

Because the stench of the Bush is not yet gone.

It'll be another 100,000,000,000,000 generations or the heat death of the sun before a Bush is elected again.

6. IMO, the heart and soul of the GOP is characterized by the ideas and policies of the primary

candidates who have been leading them so far (Perry, Bachmann, Santorum, Gingrich, Trump, Paul, Romney). This is it. The crazies have completely taken over. Everytime I hear "The Powers That Be" or the "GOP Leadership", I smile and think that those "leaders and powers" are a thing of the past, just like Boehner and McConnell who have no control at all. It frightens me though because 'murcans will be brainwashed by the Tee Vee ads that will be paid for with tens of billions in SuperPac money.

11. Nah. No way they'd sabotage, on purpose, an election they had a decent shot to win.

Their chances of winning this one are pretty poor, but still not zero. A well timed stock market crash precipitated by Euro zone issues, or an Obama sex scandal etc. could still actually put Mitt in the White House despite everything.

The GOP is really not much into delaying their gratification, their tax breaks and deregulation, for four years if they didn't have to.
