Mayor Zimmer is already at jeopardy. By talking with the prosecutors she is already exposed to felony prosecution if she has misrepresented anything.
As far as we know, nobody in the Christie administration -- at least nobody who is flapping their jaws every day -- is yet exposed to perjury or obstruction of justice charges. That makes a huge difference. The one guy in the Christie administration who has been in legal jeopardy immediately took the 5th on any and every question.
And something tells me that there is going to be a lot of 5th-taking and a lot of back-stabbing and bus-underthrowing happening on Team Christie between now and Valentine's Day.

I'd love to see Crispy frog-marched in hand cuffs and leg chains. His bad ass deserves a jail term or two.

(8,377 posts)It is like Obama to undercut us that way. It is like pulling the public option off the table and throwing the IRS under the bus before any real information had come out. I can definitely see Obama saying "we need to look forward as a nation blah blah blah."
But if obama doesn't sell out this case has some serious legs. The bridge thing was politically damaging to Christie, but not the sort of thing that could lead to plea bargains and perp walks. If Christie was jacking around with Hurricane Sandy money, that is serious shit.
And if Obama has any sense, he should throw Christie under the bus pretty soon. "As you know I met with Governor Christie frequently in the aftermath of Super-storm Sandy. Both Governor Christie and I took serious political hits by working together for the best interests of Americans. In that light, I am deeply disturbed and deeply saddened to learn that there are serious, apparently credible allegations that the Governor's office has engaged in widespread political gamesmanship with these funds that we worked so hard to secure for the victims of this natural disaster. That is not acceptable. I have directed the Justice Department to pursue this aggressively and fully. We will get to the bottom of this and anybody -- and I mean ANYBODY -- who engaged in misappropriation of Sandy funds for political favors will go to prison."
I can dream, can't I? You will never hear anything like this from Obama. I just hope he doesn't call off the dogs. If he takes the steps behind closed doors to send Christie to prison, that's OK with me.
Anyway, I bet that the prosecutor's phone is ringing off the hook with people volunteering to cop a plea in exchange for testifying against their superiors. Everybody in Christie's upper echelon had a hand in this. They are all potential defendants. You really don't want to be the last one offering a deal because the prosecutor may not need your testimony and that puts you in prison.
