Google gives talking points memo to Google bus riders

Source: San Francisco Chronicle

If you’re a Google employee and you want to offer your input during Tuesday’s SFMTA meeting on the Google Bus pilot plan, but you aren’t sure what to say to sound like a good San Franciscan, don’t worry. The online goliath’s PR department has you covered.

In a memo leaked to TechCrunch on Monday, the transportation team at the tech giant encouraged employees to attend the meeting and gave them permission to identify themselves as the ones behind the tinted glass on those shiny white buses. They even went as far as to provide some ready-made talking points for shuttle-riding Googlers who might otherwise not know what to say. The stock phrases, as written in the leaked email, include:

— I am so proud to live in San Francisco and be a part of this community.
— I support local and small businesses in my neighborhood on a regular basis.
— My shuttle empowers my colleagues and me to reduce our carbon emissions by removing cars from the road.
— If the shuttle program didn’t exist, I would continue to live in San Francisco and drive to work on the Peninsula.
— I am a shuttle rider, S.F. resident, and I volunteer at …
— Because of the above, I urge the board to adopt this pilot plan as a reasonable step in the right direction.

Not that Google is innocent. It just seems that this issue is being overblown.
