Wonkblog Founder Leaving Washington Post.
Ezra Klein, an analyst, columnist and pundit who runs The Washington Posts Wonkblog, will leave the newspaper, taking two of his colleagues with him, according to an internal memo sent on Tuesday.
Mr. Klein is looking to start his own news organization, according to the memo, but his destination was not identified. His last day, said a person familiar with the matter who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private matters, will be Friday.
He leaves with Melissa Bell, a director of platforms at the Post, according to the memo, and Dylan Matthews who had written for Wonkblog and had started its more general sister blog, Know More.
Mr. Klein, who joined The Post in 2009, quickly ascended into the ranks of the Washington media establishment with a multiplatform blend of policy nuance and number-crunching on Wonkblog. He had been rebuffed in attempts to get The Post to back his venture, four people with knowledge of the negotiations said recently. He had been seeking an investment of eight figures, one of the people said.

EDIT:
Today Washington Post told staffers that its influential economics blogger Ezra Klein is leaving the paper: "He is looking to start his own news organization, an ambition that befits someone with uncommon gifts of perception and analysis." http://bit.ly/1bfXUiG
Ezra Tweeted: 'Thanks to Washington Post for 5 incredible years. An amazing newsroom and an amazing institution.'
