Christie's Camp Fires Back: The Facts on Hoboken's Sandy Recovery Aid

Nearly $70 Million Worth Of Funding For Direct Recovery And Rebuilding Efforts In Hoboken Has Been Received And Approved. Hoboken has in no way trailed similarly situated communities in the receipt of rebuilding funds.

* Hazard Mitigation funding is federal funding specifically targeted to prevent and mitigate against future hazards and flooding. This is not funding for Sandy rebuilding efforts.

* Municipalities across all 21 counties in New Jersey have requested a combined $14 billion worth of funding specifically for Hazard Mitigation projects.

* Mayor Zimmer and Hoboken requested over $100 million in Hazard Mitigation funding, or roughly over one-third of all available statewide resources or roughly the entire pool of money available specifically for municipalities for a city that is only two square miles.

* Hoboken’s other grant requests have not been denied. The State along with the Obama Administration continue to work with Mayor Zimmer on Flood Mitigation efforts as more resources become available in the months ahead.

I read about 10 of them since yesterday. They're simply press releases for Christie.

On edit, I suspect by your response you want to believe Christie's bullshit.

Frankly, Zimmer's proposal to spend $70 million to put floodwalls around Hoboken and install pumps to emulate New Orleans sounds like a non-starter. It' hard enough to get barrier beach residents to give up their view of the ocean. Getting Hoboken residents to approve a flood wall along the Hudson would seem to be impossible.

Those are lies from Christie's minions. So if you're looking for "actual data, rather than just opinion," why are you relying on lies from Christie officials?

I mean, the article you posted is basically repeating what Christie officials are pushing.

with the bridge thing but I'm sure they will also be looking into whether "friendly" local officials got more funds after Sandy also. Glad they combined those two investigations as Christie could have tied them up in court complaining there were two competing investigations.

Until Christie releases all the numbers there is a lack of objective data, but only a total moron would believe a Christie press release would be objective.

You'd also have to protect Hoboken station and train yards, the ferry terminal, and generally coordinate with Jersey City and Weehawken since they are also on the flats along the Hudson below the Palisades.

compared to the ridiculous amounts awarded to home owners down the shore that work to prevent others from ever actually seeing the shoreline. thanks for the correction, but the shoreline is just a tad under 1.5 miles.

What would ever make you think residents do not want added protection? What is wrong with a seawall? I have never heard this claim from anyone. Not once.

That 70 million they cite did not come from Christie, most of it came from insurance payouts to people who have been paying insurance premiums for years. For the administration to try to take credit for people getting insurance money shows how desperate they are.

Lots and lots of figures. Few of which have anything to do with the subject at hand, none of which change anything that Zimmer said.
