Chris Christie met with VP of developer at center of Hoboken claims in September
TRENTON The head of a major development group at the center of allegations made by the mayor of Hoboken met with Gov. Chris Christie in September during a gala honoring the governor for his work on improving drug treatment.
Christie and his wife, Mary Pat, posed for a photo at the event with Leslie Smith Jr., an executive vice president of the Rockefeller Group, the same firm that was seeking to develop three blocks of prime real estate in the densely populated city.

The firm and Christie's office did not immediately respond to questions about the meeting, how long Smith and the governor have known each other, or whether the Hoboken project was discussed at the event.
Smith's biography on the firm's website says he serves on the executive committee of DAYTOP New Jersey, a drug treatment program.
The organization honored Christie in September for his work to expand the state's drug courts and require more non-violent offenders to seek drug treatment rather than be jailed. The photo was included in a gallery posted by the organization online.
State campaign finance records show Smith gave $500 to Christie's 2009 primary campaign, another $500 to his 2010 inaugural committee and $1,000 in April to his primary campaign for re-election.
It was not immediately clear if Smith attended the 2010 inauguration.
