It got below freezing last night. There is ice on some of the overpasses. It won't be above freezing until noon today!

(10,952 posts)closed due to the cold temps. The problem some parents will have is that school officials waited pretty late to make the decision for today and some parents will be scrambling for child care. Of course maybe the parents (if not the schools) should be the grownups in the room and think ahead and be prepared just in case the schools are close.

(1,039 posts)We are going to have to stay inside or wear those jacket things! I think it should be declared a federal disaster area.
This is the Houston region, BTW.

(11,843 posts)We had schools closed yesterday and maybe today due to temperatures, but we are talking 15 degrees below ZERO, so like, 40 degrees colder? I wear layers of fleece under a windproof shell for a winter coat. I went out for a walk the night before last and had frost inside the shell when I got home. We might get up to a heat wave of "below freezing" over the weekend before the next wave of cold hits next week.

(46,179 posts)and there was ice, as usual. Our high was in the 20s, so we never did get above freezing. There were also cinders down on main roads and on bridges, also usual. No school delays for us. Of course, that's common, and business as usual here, so we have infrastructure to deal with it. We DID close down last month when the temps went deep into sub-zero range, though. Pipes at 2 schools, as well as every place else, were broken. Apparently a new front is moving in; after yesterday's high in the 20s, today's high is forecast for 60 degrees. It's only 13 degrees right now, so if that happens, it's going to be a dramatic change in a short time.
Stay warm!
