http://bluntandcranky.wordpress.com/2014/01/24/born-again-christian-of-the-week-mr-bill/I received this comment, including a threat of physical violence, on an earlier post today ( http://wp.me/p2jksg-2iv ). I am posting it here so all yall can see how little it matters if someone identifies as a Christian. A person named Bill, (hailing from an AOL account, which along with his IP Address has now been duly recorded) sent this charming little missive:
Jesus spoke in spiritual terms, not physical.
So when the hungry are fed, thirsty are given drink, stranger are taken in, naked are clothed, sick or in prison are visited, Jesus is talking about those who were hungry and thirsty and needed the Gospel of Christ; they were naked and sick and in prison because of their sin. This isnt talking about physically filling the needs of people, this is in reference to filling their spiritual needs. To try and attach a physical meaning to a spiritual reference perverts the meaning, and you will get nowhere except with those who are as equally stupid as you are.
Now, in reference to physically helping those in need, this is very simple: If Jesus believed that it was the role of govt to help all these people, he had ample opportunity to condemn the Roman Empire for doing nothing about it. He didnt. Thats because its the role of individuals.
Now, can individuals agree do help others via govt programs? Yes. But because one doesnt view those things being the role of the govt doesnt mean they dont care for others, it just means they dont agree with that method as being the best one. You left-wing freaks need to grow up and recognize that. Youre wrong. Were right. That will never change. Never.
And tell riqster to shut his stupid mouth before I shut it for him. And I can, I assure you.
Notice the verbal abuse, as well as the threat of physical abuse. And this person is going to sit at Jesus right hand? If so, Lord, send me someplace else, please. I dont need to deal with abusive bullies in the afterlife, there are far too many of them in this one.

(3,660 posts)Not that much of thee Bible ever did, but in this case we are dealing with an internal logical inconsistency.
Let's assume for a moment the list of aid rendered to the needy is all about helping them spiritually and bringing them to Jesus. At a stretch I could accept it for the first part of the mini-parable.
But then what in the name of....well, Christ... is JC going on about when he says that as you have done to the least of them, you have done to him?
I'm no theologian, but I really doubt Jesus needed much instruction about ....Jesus, or that the son of God needed to be taught the gospel of God to help free him from the prison of his sin, a problem from which he was purportedly completely free.
So what exactly ARE you doing to him in the spiritual interpretation?
Oh and the main reason he didn't immediately start haranguing the Romans about good governance in aid to the poor is that he wouldn't have past Galilee had he tried, somewhat hampering the great commission at the outset. And come to think of it, bread was distributed free in Rome.

It is a doctrine of inaction, promulgated by the lazy. Actually having to do good works, feh, too much effort.

Row as 'blasphemous' Bible spoof play cancelled by Northern Ireland council
24 January 2014
Amnesty International has said the cancellation of a play in Northern Ireland after Christians claimed it was blasphemous interferes with freedom of speech.
The Bible: The Complete Word Of God (Abridged) was due to be staged in the Theatre At The Mill in Newtownabbey on the northern outskirts of Belfast later this month.
The Democratic Unionist-led borough council decided to call it off amid strong opposition from religious conservatives.
Amnesty Northern Ireland director Patrick Corrigan said: "It is well-established in international human rights law that the right to freedom of expression, though not absolute, is a fundamental right which may only be restricted in certain limited circumstances to do with the advocacy of hatred...
