Rush Out At WABC: Radio Insider-When Rush's contract is up......

Cumulus Media’s flagship station, 77 WABC AM in New York, will replace Rush Limbaugh with Mike Huckabee as soon as the conservative radio icon’s contract is up at the station, claims a radio industry insider.

“I can guarantee you that the minute Cumulus’ contract with Rush expires in New York, they will replace him with Huckabee,” Joel Hollander, the former CEO of CBS Radio now running private investment firm 264 Echo Place Partners, told Reuters in a new interview.

About 140 stations have already signed on to Huckabee’s new show, claims Cumulus co-Chief Operating Officer John Dickey, and that number is steadily growing. Dickey told Reuters that Cumulus has “no plans to drop Rush” from any of its stations at this time and will “honor its contracts.”

Dickey did say some stations have agreed to swap Huckabee with Limbaugh once their contracts with Limbaugh expire, but he declined to say which stations made the agreement.

Wondering when Rush's contract is up? I'm thinking four years but is that the same agreement for the stations?

On The RIGHT Perspective with Frank of Queens and John of Staten Island, opinions that are as subtle as an iceberg in a shipping lane fly fast and furious on all topics. With Frank and John’s combination of hard-hitting no-holds-barred honesty, knowledge of current and historical events, passion, common sense, and facts, Liberal arguments dissolve like an aspirin under Niagara Falls. That is why it wasn’t long after the dawn of talk radio that Frank and John became the most well known callers to talk radio – nationally as well as locally.

That vile human being has been a steady and reliable source of income for radio stations across the country for years. It appears that his network has finally taken a hit to the bottom line, and the company that syndicates that vile human being's show has been hoping it would all blow over in a couple of weeks, just like it always has.

Premiere Networks can't afford to give away its top of the line product for free indefinitely, but they're having to do that now. Keep the pressure on, folks. Soon that vile human being can be free to say whatever stupidities he wants but without the fat paycheck.

Cumulus just bought the former ABC stations. hey will replace clear-channel's Limbaugh with heir own Huckabee wherever and whenever possible. It has nothing to do with the recent kerfluffle.

new fad is to drive traffic at RW sites, soak it in:

<...>

John’s tell-it-like-it-is delivery in his phone calls to talk shows over the years has endeared him to those who agree and invoked anger and outrage from those who disagree. It is often wondered how John comes up with all the facts, dates, and sources to validate his or Frank’s commentary on so many issues. John explains, “There is no need for conservatives to lie, fabricate, or distort. Liberals have to — because everything they believe goes against human nature and history has proven them to be wrong on almost every major issue. I do not lie or make up anything I speak about for one good reason — once someone discovers that you have lied to them or been cutesy with the facts, they will never believe anything you say from that point on.” A knockout blow can easily be administered when facts and sources are consistently at his fingertips. The greatest enemy of the political “left” are facts! Liberals have taught John that since they choose to believe what they want, John keeps a notebook computer close by to pull up facts on almost any political subject. His database is constantly being updated as history unwinds.

<...>

During the glory days of talk radio in the early ‘90s, there was no limit to the number of shows Frank and John could call, but after Bill Clinton blamed the Oklahoma City bombing on talk radio in an attempt to silence many of his critics, things changed. Talk station managers and producers actually let Clinton’s opportunistic drivel intimidate them. Outspoken callers, and especially the most popular regular ones, including Frank and John, were suddenly given less time to express their opinions, passed over by the call screeners, and eventually, it was made clear that they were not welcome and banned from many stations. In fact, callers in general had become an after thought. Talk shows began, at least it seemed, to be just for the host or hosts. They continued to take calls but it seemed that every caller was told “You have thirty seconds.” or “We’re up on a break, make it quick… etc.” The “silent hang up” became the standard to shorten calls and dispense with any real give and take. Real conversation all but disappeared.

<...>

When listening, nothing short of the Truth is given; Frank and John deliver the real thing.

BATTLE ON, PATRIOT! BATTLE ON!

I'd never heard of them, but then again I've never listened to more than a minute or two of hate radio. It certainly sounds like they were paid to be such reliable callers. For one thing how else could they consistently get through? And besides that, how could they dedicate so much time to being callers on hate radio if they had to actually work for a living?

All Rush does is defame, dehumanize, and demonize people. You can disagree with Sandra Fluke or Barack Obama and not call her a prostitute or him a Muslim terrorist.

At least Huckabee is civil.

Talkers: Cumulus claims to have about 140 stations ready to air Huckabee – about 45 of those are Cumulus-owned stations. . . . The Limbaugh contract with WABC reportedly doesn’t end until 2013 but such a prediction is not so far out. Every syndicator in the business wants a New York affiliate so why wouldn’t Cumulus put its own product – assuming it is performing – on its own station? Meanwhile, Premiere Networks issues this statement: “Rush Limbaugh continues to be the No. 1 talk radio host in America. Mike Huckabee is the latest in a long line of those who have attempted to compete with Rush."

Mon Mar 19, 2012, 03:43 PM
Mar 2012

Station contracts to air Limbaugh expire at all different time as they were signed all the time.

There may be other ways for stations to drop the show without having to pay a penalty. I don't know.

About what I am particularly curious is whether there are performance clauses as to ratings and advertisers that allow a station to cancel or drop the show or a receive a discount/refund/etc. If there are and ratings are dropping (which they were prior to the Fluke events) and/or enough advertisers refuse to buy, can stations dump the show for not living to guarantees in ratings and/or ability to generate ad revenue.

Terrestrial broadcast radio is shrinking anyway, so ad revenues are harder to come by. The boycott of Limbaugh along with the increased competition may combine to cut into the ability of his show to generate revenue in this shrinking market. This would in turn reduce the incentive to broadcast his show and cripple Clear Channel .
