Explicit emails were a ruse, says Indiana county councilman (R)

A Madison County councilman who is running for commissioner said his exchange of sexually explicit emails with a female assessor in another county was a ruse designed to expose corruption and was not part of an extramarital affair.

According to The Herald Bulletin, Republican David McCartney used his county email account to send the emails and to conduct campaign business on county time. McCartney works in the county assessor's office.

... He could not say exactly when he devised the alleged ruse and enlisted the help of the female assessor, but he said it was "a risk I was willing to take for the taxpayers."

"In order to catch a traitor, you have to be a traitor," he said. McCartney did not offer details on the type of corruption he hoped to expose.

... The emails included McCartney transmitting campaign materials on several occasions, as well as dozens of racy emails exchanged with a female county assessor in another county.

“You are too sweet, just so happens you taste sweet as well,” McCartney wrote in an email with a time stamp of Feb. 21 at 2:25 p.m.

In a Jan. 23 email at 2:55 p.m., McCartney appears to brag to an employee in the Madison County prosecutor’s office about a recent conference.

“(Fifty-dollar) steaks and free beer. I was in heaven, not to mention all the hot (pieces) of (explicative),” read the email.

Just how stupid are you? Mr. McCartney thinks you're incredibly stupid. Is he right?
