Parliament to debate Nato supply line on 20th (Pakistan)

ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to summon a three-day session of the joint sitting of both the Houses of Parliament on Tuesday to discuss the report of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) on new terms of engagement with the United States and to decide whether to open the Nato supply line or not. The government had, earlier, decided to call the joint session of both the Houses of Parliament on March 19, but it had now decided to convene it on March 20, and it will continue till March 22.

According to sources, the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, in its report, made around 33 recommendations for new terms of engagements with the United States and declared that the basis of the new relationship should be conditional on the agreement of transfer civil nuclear technology to Pakistan so that Pakistan could control its energy crisis.

Sources said the PCNS in the report declared that greater access of Pakistani products to the US and European markets should be ensured. Sources said the committee asked for a complete halt to drone attacks, ensuring respect for the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan and a guarantee of the non-transgression of Pakistan’s frontiers in the future.

Sources said the draft proposal also sought a complete ban on Nato supplies from Pakistan. In its report, the Parliamentary Committee stated that bilateral relationships should be organised at an equal level and no drone attack will be carried out on the soil of Pakistan in the future.

Apparently, the NATO supply route overland through Pakistan to Afghanistan is still blocked. Wonder how they are getting fuel into Afghanistan?
