Some questions about George Zimmerman ( the racist who gunned down Trayvon Martin) -

The reports refer to him as being a "neighborhood watch captain". What neighborhood watch was he captain of? Is there actually a neighborhood watch, or is there only George Zimmerman? Does the so-called "gated community" actually have a gate with a guard, or is it merely a sub-division with some fancy signage?

neighborhood "watches" are usually volunteer. I think being "captain" is a selected person done by the volunteers.

That's how it is in my neighborhood anyway.

Any neighborhood can organize a Neighborhood Watch. I helped do this many years ago. It's all very informal. All you have to do is ask your neighbors to come to a meeting. In our case, a police detective came and gave a talk about ways to discourage crime in the neighborhood by keeping an eye on one another's homes and calling 911 if we saw anything suspicious. That was it.

You aren't supposed to chase and kill people you think look suspicious. Where I come from, that's considered murder.

If the HOA Board of Directors sanctioned his activities that could get really interesting if/when the parents file a civil suit.

It is a very small town. It has one main street. It has a high crime rate. http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/fl/sanford/crime/ It is not a very prosperous town. I can't really think of any high dollar neighborhood there but apparently there must be one. It is huge in the news here in Orlando.

When the homeowners association wanted to start a neighborhood watch, only one man stepped up: George Zimmerman, the 28-year-old who admitted to shooting an unarmed Miami Gardens teenager and who is now the focal point of a race-related scandal of national proportions.

They discussed the topic with Zimmerman when the watch captain knocked on their door late last year. Zimmerman seemed friendly, helpful, and a “pretty cool dude,” Ibrahim Rashada said.

Actually, he does not walk around the neighborhood at all.
“I fit the stereotype he emailed around,” he said. “Listen, you even hear me say it: ‘A black guy did this. A black guy did that.’ So I thought, ‘Let me sit in the house. I don’t want anyone chasing me.’?”

10. We have lots of gated communities where I live. Usually you just need the code to get in.

It's kinda like one of those old telephones with the buttons you press.
Every home owner has their own code. And everyone that lives in that community has a code.

Rarely do gated communities have guards.
