Some people think Obama would love to have Republican Senate, and they'll vote to prevent that.
Others think Obama would love to keep a Democratic majority, and they'll vote to protect it.
Win! LOL!
President Obama is in a very good position

(52,164 posts)We have almost no chance of winning the House back. In the Senate we may well lose our majority and certainly will see our majority diminished. Hagan is in serious trouble here, though the GOP going off the deep end helped her immensely. Pryor is in horrible trouble, we have lost WV, lost SD, and we are in trouble in Alaska. I think we will hold on by one or two seats but it will be very close.

If it remains the same, the current obstruction remains in place. If Republicans keep the House and gain the Senate, they will work hard to push through their own agenda and the only line of defense will be the President.

Having said that, I don't think Democrats are going to lose the Senate.

(52,164 posts)Remember the literally years it took to get those people in place thanks to the filibuster, well if they get the majority that will be a walk in the park. No committee hearings for nominees, no votes for nominees. We will literally be unable to appoint dog catchers.

(52,164 posts)If we lose the Senate Obama can't appoint anyone to anything that requires Senate confirmation. Say that something, God forbid, happens to Ginsburg. He can't fire or have resign cabinet members because he won't be able to replace them.

Again, the key posts (CFPB, Courts, EPA, Housing Authority) were filled.

(52,164 posts)What happens if say Cordray decides he wants to run for a political office? What if Scalia decides he wants to spend more time with his family? Do you seriously think it won't matter if the Senate is GOP when a thing like that happens?

(55,147 posts)We will keep control of the Senate, pick up seats in the house (not enough for a majority), but some are better than none.
P.S. Watch for some surprises coming out of Florida in November.
