Charda Gregory: Warren, Michigan, cop slices off young mother’s hair weave

A police officer in Michigan put a young mother into a restraining chair and hacked off her hair weave.

7 Action News Investigator had exclusive video of the officer shoving Charda Gregory, restraining her, and then using scissors to cut out the artificial hair that was sewn into a braid on Gregory’s scalp.

“I was confused.  I didn’t know what happened and what was going on,” said Gregory.

Warren police officials say they do ask prisoners to remove clipped-in long hair extensions, so they can’t be used as a weapon or to commit suicide.  But a weave is different, and Police Commissioner Jere Green says what Officer Bernadette Najor did was not a proper use of force.

Abuse of power everywhere you look.

Abuse of power in our government, in global corporations, and by CEO's the world over.

Lack of common sense and decency proudly displayed and at times touted as a virtue.

The cerebral health of the US terrifies me.

Hair weaves are quite expensive, I believe. I hope that she is fully compensated.

Also, not only Officer Najar but also the cops who took part in this incident need to face serious disciplinary action. They assaulted this young woman.

remember, ignorance is no excuse??? They are just criminal pigs. Like all cops who turn a blind eye. They allow the corruption, so they are just as guilty.

....when they do Nazi type antics like this. A judge should order the cop to have her hair shaved by the lady she abused, then send her to jail for 6 months to complete the message!

I'm from Michigan and anyone familiar with the state knows how bad it is here. And there's tons of racist banter about hair weaves. I really think that's what led to this.

Cutting off hair woven into the hair is as useful as far as promoting safety as cutting off naturally long hair. All that was accomplished was a dehumanizing, humiliating act, though I suspect that was the real point of it.
