Charles Pierce tears MSNBC's Phil Griffin a new one (re: Cheerios tweet apology)

"...We wrote yesterday about the storm of fauxtrage that arose over an anonymous MSNBC tweet concerning a new commercial from the Cheerios people. This prompted an ungainly dive from the "liberal" network in the face of the flying howler monkeys. However, yesterday, the surrender became abject. Obvious anagram Reince Priebus, the empty suit in the emptiest job in American politics, threatened to keep every Republican off MSNBC unless heads rolled to his satisfaction. Whereupon Griffin apologized again, and assured Priebus that he had fired the anonymous staffer who'd put up the tweet in the first place and, pretty please, would Priebus allow nutballs like Tim Huelskamp to come on MSNBC again? Flushed with triumph, Priebus pretended once again to be an important person..."

"There is no more powerless person in American politics than Reince Priebus, and few entities more powerless than the Republican National Committee which, last time around, couldn't even keep its primary calendar straight. The power in the Republican party lies now in the vast network of independent organizations funded by the same claque of about 15 plutocrats, and what power does not lie there lies in the elements of organized theocracy. Reince Priebus is a not very convincing marionette who couldn't even get elected to the Wisconsin state senate. What he knows about politics you could put up his ass and have room for a change of clothes. Priebus should have been told to fk off and come back when he shows the ability, in the immortal words of Bob Knight, to lead a whore to bed.

I realize that, unlike Roger Ailes, whose organized slander, pander and propaganda festival never apologizes for anything, and who could give a rat's ass if a Democrat ever entered his studios again, Griffin has the great deadweight of NBC News on his back while he tries to do his job. (I imagine that they've only just now revived Tom Brokaw, the man who invented World War II, and pried him off the fainting couch. and that the Dancin' Master, who still has a job despite this immortal moment, will have a segment on Sunday in which Priebus can flex it up again.) I appreciate the problem. But some poor bastard -- whose identity, I guarantee you, the flying monkeys are at the moment seeking because they need an actual head on the wall -- has lost a job behind this now because Griffin took a ridiculous figure like Reince Priebus seriously. This is like getting held up by mail."

Then we are allowing only the nut jobs to speak and the sensible world where the majority live will be deafened to the nut crowd. RP does not censor his crazy bunch who says vile things about us so do nit allow RP to control our thinking.

They're able to convince the villagers that they are.

And the Democrat's milque-toast responses further validates that perception.

The Left (Professional and otherwise) needs to show them off the stage, and be ready to put up fists if they fail to do so in a manner that's sufficiently servile.

Yes, as you can tell, I'm sick of the reactionaries.

He cuts through the babble to reveal the inanity behind most of it - for both parties. These are really messed up times politically, he has no lack of material for his craft as he exposes the shell game that is the political system 2014 - often in a pretty funny way. He is a bit like Taibbi in having some Hunter Thompson in his style.

This is a man who was around back in the days when the top tax rate was 60-90% and only a few rich cranks complained.

And now too many folks have been fooled as to who the takers really are.

I guess the dignity of her son doesn't matter when a GOP stooge issues slurs that include the "r" word.

Granted, Coulter is about as relevant to the public discouse as Palin is nowadays but consistency in Palin's outrage would negate the general belief that she uses her son's condition as a prop.

Graham published the story anyway and on top of that published most of Mitchell's threat.

Griffin can be pushed around by Reince Pip-squeak Priebus.

Un. Freaking. Believable.

got it inverted.

In linguistics, the rebus principle means using existing symbols, such as pictograms, purely for their sounds regardless of their meaning, to represent new words. Many ancient writing systems used the rebus principle to represent abstract words, which otherwise would be hard to be represented by pictograms. An example that illustrates the Rebus principle is the representation of the sentence "I can see you" by using the pictographs of "eye—can—sea—ewe." Some linguists believe that the Chinese developed their writing system according to the rebus principle,[5] and Egyptian hieroglyphs sometimes used a similar system.

He stands up for nothing, he throws his own to the lions (Priebus a lion?), he cares only for . . .what? Access? Access to whom? GOP ass-boogers who all speak the same bullshit talking points in defense of crushing the Obama Administration, of the need to nuke Iran and invade Syria, and of cutting off food stamps and stopping unemployment benefits for millions of people out of work because of Republican intransigence, heartlessness, and greedy sycophancy to the sociopathic faction of the rich 1-5%?

If there is ever an accurate history written of the sick monkey current America sees as journalism, it will hold up Griffith and his slobbering ilk to the ridicule and contempt they deserve.

I will continue to watch Rachel and Chris and, occasionally, the weekend morning shows. But if anyone ever tells me that MSNBC is a leftist leaning liberal outlet, my response will be swift, to the point, and possibly felonious.

no idea about the "ad" because I didn't see it. Still, in the past some of the actions Griffin has taken against several hosts has really angered me. I do watch them, but I also watch alternative TV because I'm lucky enough to have DISH.

Of course you have to get ALL the channels they offer to watch other channels like FSTV & LINK, I think. It's the ONE big expenditure I don't give my husband grief for. If it wasn't for him and the channels HE WANTED... fishing, sports etc., I would never have paid their high price!

Still, it's also made him so much MORE aware of "politics" than he ever was before. He never paid any attention to certain realities until he started watching MSNBC. He likes Al Sharpton too. Still working on making him watch alternative channels. However, MSNBC really isn't Liberal to me, but better than FOX & CNN!

But I totally agree with that Griffin is an ASS! Never see FOX kissing ass and apologizing for their daily fountain of lies!

Where is a link to the ad?

Phil Griffin is supposed to be on "our side". I don't believe that for a minute. All about the $$$$ for MSNBC. If they thought for a second they realistically could woo the right to the network they would've done it. Probably figure "We're not going to get the Fox News demographic so why not make the money off the libs?"

edit to add: so I'd assume if Rachel steps out of line she'll be shitcanned as well?
