New memo lists 31 advertisers who requested ‘not to be scheduled in any Rush Limbaugh program’ |

Radio-info.com reports that Cumulus Media/ESPN has distrubuted a list of 31 advertisers “who requested that their commercials not be scheduled in any Rush Limbaugh programs.” Cumulus, the second largest U.S. radio network, carries Limbaugh on 40 of its stations. The full list of 31 advertisers is unknown. The memo is separate from a list of 96 advertisers who don’t want to advertise on Limbaugh which was reported exclusively last week by ThinkProgress. That memo was distributed by Limbaugh’s largest radio network, Premiere.

It's still a victory, or at the very least, more negativity for this misogynistic clown. nt babylonsister Mar 2012 #4

...these are NOT (necessarily) companies that advertised with Rush in the past. Most networks trade carriage of their shows for the right to place certain ads on the station's schedule. These spots are usually coded "BTA" (Best Time Available) or "ROS" (Run of Schedule) and fill out spot availabilities that remain unsold by the station. They're also often included in top of the hour news or "adjacency" (spots right before or right after an hour's worth of show). That's what all of these spots are.

The most common use of these is for top-of-hour news. ABC Radio (which is owned by Cumulus) has either one minute or 90 seconds (depending upon which network you subscribe to; ABC has four different news networks) of spots that you have to play to carry their news on the top of the hour. Most affiliates will just play the news in its entirety live and carry those spots there, but some (WOND was one in certain programs) will record the spots and play them later in the hour to give themselves more time for news (or for local sponsors.) Now stations' traffic directors are going to have to check the network schedule and cover up any network spots that don't want to air in Rush's slot! That's a lot more work and a lot of today's unmanned automated talk stations (thank you Clear Channel) aren't set up to do that!

When someone doesn't want their commercials in your show even if they don't have to pay (extra) for it, then you know it's over.

I wanna make sure EVERYBODY sees this thread:

How to fight back at the local radio, with insights from a former radio person. As one of those, myself, I can vouch for the good ideas in it. I have personally personally witnessed how effective these strategies can be.
