Im watching the Super Bowl, looks like good defense (Seattle) is trouncing good offense (Denver) when a Coca Cola commercial came on and it started rather patriotically with the words of America the Beautiful.Then the words went from English to languages I did't not recognize. Now, I know the politically correct thing is to foster multiculturalism working really well in Europe but we should remember the words spoken by President Teddy Roosevelt;

There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isnt an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile.
We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language for we intend to see that the crucible turns our people out as Americans, and American nationality, and not as dwellers in a polyglot boarding house; and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.

I am quite sure there may some who appreciated the commercial, but Coca Cola missed the mark in my opinion. If we cannot be proud enough as a country to sing American the Beautiful in English in a commercial during the Super Bowl, by a company as American as they come doggone we are on the road to perdition. This was a truly disturbing commercial for me, what say you?

What I say is...
First of all Allen, how the hell do you know that these Americans do not know English? Do you in your narrow small bigoted brain not understand the meaning of bilingual?
In your mind they are not American because they sang it in a language that you do not know? Does pride in their heritage make them any less proud of America? Is pride in America narrowly defined like people like you? Yeah you are AA, yet a ridiculous bigot. Pride in America is defined by you of the language they speak.
We are indeed on the road to perdition, Allen. You and your loathsome party speak a far more foreign language than any I heard in that commercial. You talk of pride in this country yet you are all doing your utmost to see her fail. You are the ones that want to bring America to her knees.
As for Roosevelt's quote it was from a long time ago and much history has passed. Yet one thing I would like to hi-light.
we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.
I would say to you Allen, where the hell is your parties loyalty to the American people?
Best commercial ever!

(111,289 posts)but there's not much of a bang, their brains are so atrophied. It's more a slightly soggy plop, contained within their thick skulls, the only indication bugged out eyes.
My flavored sodas are Sodastream so I won't support them by buying their stuff.
Still, it would be fun to plunk them into any port of entry in the country and watch them flip out. I took advantage of it and learned what I could while I was there. They'd just assume anyone speaking their native language with friends or family were talking about them. It would also be a lot of fun watching them try to cope by yelling, thinking everybody will understand English if you speak it loudly enough.

(82,383 posts)that the country has many languages. It is made up of immigrants. It's weird how they see the country as being something it's not. they think it's England or Sweden or someplace relatively un-complex (even now those countries have more diversity too).

(53,661 posts)If English speakers didn't want to hear other languages, they should have stayed home to hear nothing else. Oh wait, that never happened. Just about every language has been spoken on that island for centuries. English isn't called the bastard tongue for nothing.
If the capitalists didn't want to create a multi-cultural society in the USA, they should not have imported African slaves. If they didn;t want Mexicans speaking Spanish here, they shouldn't hired them for jobs.
Why weren't the people you claim as spiritual ancestors, willing to do the work they had them do?
If they didn't want people from all over the world to come here, they shouldn't have had wars for advantage across the globe and made allies that needed to move here when the boots left their soil or be slaughtered.
Or sign trade agreements that made migration necessary. Or insist on hiring migrants with H2 visas to increase profits. Where was your loyalty to this faux English speaking America you speak for today?
And you, Mr. West, would not be in the land of the 'English speaking that never really was' you're promoting. Would you, unless you claim you are the member of a tribe who may not speak English?
That ship has sailed and that dog don't hunt anymore. If you don't like what America has become, too bad, you and yours did it to yourselves.
But I think the Founders truly did have something like this in mind, a few centuries ago. As they came from a continent of many cultures, were taught about many kinds of people by studying world history.
They looked it over with good hearts, and more like the God you claim to follow, saw it was something good.
Now just think about that, former representative West, you and all your friends who troll or lurk about here. You left the monoculturistic vision you claim to want, because you were too lazy and greedy to keep it by hard work.
And your vision is against the original plan.
But you don't want to admit to being so small, do you?
Enjoy the ride you built.

(83,804 posts)Our language is diverse as is our ancestry. Some came here willingly to escape the wrath and persecution. Others as you stated were brought here to be bought , used and abused.
We are a nation of immigrants, we can all trace back to an ancestor.

Ellis Island
Ellis Island opened in 1892 as a federal immigration station, a purpose it served for more than 60 years (it closed in 1954). Millions of newly arrived immigrants passed through the station during that time--in fact, it has been estimated that close to 40 percent of all current U.S. citizens can trace at least one of their ancestors to Ellis Island.
When Ellis Island opened, a great change was taking place in immigration to the United States. As arrivals from northern and western Europe--Germany, Ireland, Britain and the Scandinavian countries--slowed, more and more immigrants poured in from southern and eastern Europe. Among this new generation were Jews escaping from political and economic oppression in czarist Russia and eastern Europe (some 484,000 arrived in 1910 alone) and Italians escaping poverty in their country. There were also Poles, Hungarians, Czechs, Serbs, Slovaks and Greeks, along with non-Europeans from Syria, Turkey and Armenia. The reasons they left their homes in the Old World included war, drought, famine and religious persecution, and all had hopes for greater opportunity in the New World.
After an arduous sea voyage, many passengers described their first glimpse of New Jersey, while third-class or steerage passengers lugged their possessions onto barges that would take them to Ellis Island. Immigrants were tagged with information from the ship's registry and passed through long lines for medical and legal inspections to determine if they were fit for entry into the United States. From 1900 to 1914--the peak years of Ellis Island's operation--some 5,000 to 10,000 people passed through the immigration station every day. Approximately 80 percent successfully passed through in a matter of hours, but others could be detained for days or weeks. Many immigrants remained in New York, while others traveled by barge to railroad stations in Hoboken or Jersey City, New Jersey, on their way to destinations across the country.

Allen is uneducated about our nations history. Dumb and so very blind. That he is a man of color and speaks as he does is an abomination.
Thanks freshwest, so very well said.
