...the ad also features a same-sex male couple with a child (at 0:45)
Coca Cola's Super Bowl XLVIII commercial was a winner in every way.
Telling the story of a pair of dads who take their daughter roller-skating, the segment won the approval of GLAAD and the LGBT community.
The landmark ad was the first Super Bowl commercial to feature a gay family, following in the footsteps of prominent stars such as Ellen DeGeneres who have appeared during the big game.

(15,386 posts)As I've pointed out here and on some right-wing sites (who were all blinded by their multicultural hatred) it's like that "experiment" where you're watching two groups of people in differently-colored uniforms pass a basketball back and forth to members of their teams. You're told to count the passes the red team makes, and you're so intent on that you supposedly don't notice a guy in a gorilla costume walk into the middle of them, turn to face the camera, and then turn back and walk off.

(3,888 posts)It seems to me that many of the multicultural haters, I've run into, use the term to suggest a confusing jumble of mixed up ideas and behaviors, exhibited by people wearing brightly colored clothing, while shouting foreign, and likely threatening, songs. To the haters, this is scary and un-American.
Your description of how those, with blinders see things, seems right on to me.

(15,386 posts)Their fear of multiculturalism which they try to explain away "intellectually" as somehow being bad for America basically means, "I don't like people with more melanin than I have."

(3,888 posts)Diversity was ok when it meant a salad, all mixed together and covered with a thick coating of Mayonnaise, or when used in an advertizement meant to attract low wage workers to our shores.
Not so ok when it means treating all citizens as valued members of the community.

(3,888 posts)tricked by the Coke Company into drinking their swill.
The gay dads skating was a very small segment of the video. I probably would not have even noticed it except I was looking for it.
And the very idea of anyone thinking a company like Coca Cola would shun possible customers, to appease right wing sensibilities, is absurd.
Coca Cola would make a deal with the Devil if they could. Think of the soft drinks that could be sold in hell.

(18,635 posts)After all, that's the only reason Coke paid for this, to sell cokes.
The whole country is talking about the ad so it's doing exactly what it was designed to do.
Sell soft drinks.
