Hi DUers! Does anyone here have a decent link to a pro-French burka ban interview?

An interview with Sarkozy would be great.

I am writing a paper for school, and most of the pro-burka ban articles I have read are too anti-Islam. I don't want to demonize either side, I just need some rational quotes from public supporters of the ban.

Thanks!

Of course, if you want to paint islam in a different light, feel free. while you are at it, why don't you go to any islamic country and make an announcement you are for gay marriage.

3. Use 'hijab' or 'niqab' ahead of the "b" word when you search--it might improve your results.

A burqua is a very specific garment--it's like saying "sport coat" when all you mean is "jacket." You rarely see those in France.

"Face veil" is another useful term.

If you want French language materials, there's a wealth of it online.

The religious elite were beheaded along with the royalty as oppressors. WWII and France's participation in Jewish genocide has also contributed to their (now) revulsion towards overt religiosity in the public square. Thus there is a strong culture of social rejection of religious symbols. If you google articles on French history and their pride in their secular history plus Sarkozy, you will get the results you want.
