Hillary Vs. the 99%

Hillary Vs. the 99%

...

The DLC, also known as the Republican wing of the Democratic Party, came into being during the Reagan presidency to fight against social justice initiatives, instead supporting neo-liberal trade policies such as NAFTA and a Reagan-lite economic agenda. They’ve dutifully served their corporate masters by keeping the left wing of the party at bay while squeezing in a quasi-Republican Clinton presidency as a placeholder between the Bushes. In doing so, however, they drove progressives right out of the party, either to third parties or straight to political disgust and disengagement, in the process stripping the party of what little soul it had while assuring a Republican presidential victory in 2000.

Their candidate for president in 2016 will likely be Hillary Clinton. And the effect of such a candidacy would be to drive the new generation of progressives out of the party, effectively taking control of the party, but ceding control of national politics to a Republican economic agenda, stewarded either by themselves or by the real Republicans. The difference between them and the Republicans is that they don’t smell too rank, taking a more electable 1980s approach to social issues, rather than the 1950s approach apparently preferred by Republicans.

They still might not be electable, since both progressives and Republicans want to see change. And for the majority of Americans suffering under economic apartheid, so what if Hillary won? There’s just not enough there to get you out to vote on a rainy day. Hillary Clinton is a former director of Wal-Mart, for god’s sake. And she was a director at precisely the time when they were gobbling up small American towns and doubling down on sourcing their goods to the worst sweatshops on earth.

There is much better alternative for Democrats nationwide: Brian Schweitzer.

but really, the Walmart thing is really stretching. Twenty years ago Walmart was not what it is today.
She used her relationship with Walton to get things done for her governor husband... good things.

I am going to quote an article:

Bob Ortega, author of ''In Sam We Trust," a history of Wal-Mart, said Clinton used her position to urge the company to improve its gender and racial diversity. Because of Clinton's prodding, Walton agreed to hire an outside firm to track the company's progress in hiring women and minorities, Ortega said.

Clinton proved to be such a thorn in Walton's side that at Wal-Mart's annual meeting in 1987, when shareholders challenged Walton on the company's lack of female managers, he assured them the record was improving ''now that we have a strong-willed young lady on the board."

Clinton was particularly vocal on environmental matters, pressing the company to boost its sale and use of recycled materials and other ''green" products.

A lot of us have problems with someone attracting so many billionaires to her cause. As for being a burr under the Walton saddle, she was showing them how to increase sales to people who didn't usually shop there. Alice Walton has endorsed her run for the presidency in 2016.

I will not be supporting Mrs. Clinton in the primaries.

I will vote for whatever conservative stiff the party gives us. I just hope it's not Clinton.

As Montana's governor, Schweitzer stymied Montana's Republican-led legislature completely, opposed the overturning of Montana's century-old campaign finance law by out-of-state corporate groups, and is a strong advocate for single-payer health care, among other things. He is a midwestern conservative when it comes to gun issues (how could a Montana politician not be?), but he's not in the NRA's back pocket. His economic policies are precisely what this nation needs right now.

16. Schweitzer endorses gay marriage

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/03/27/number-of-democratic-holdouts-against-gay-marriage-is-dwindling-fast.html

Montana has a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, so Schweitzer would have need to overturn it before pushing for an equality law, and before leaving office last year, he gave an interview and said that if the legislature passed a bill that said the government has no place “telling you who to love, I agree with all of that.” Advocates and politicos in the Big Sky state said Schweitzer had carefully guarded his views, and even close watchers of statehouse politics in Helena said they weren’t sure where he stood. I eventually tracked Schweitzer down at his lakefront home, and after describing the majestic Montana mountains outside his window, he said: “I believe that two people who love each other ought to be legally married ... given the opportunity to support people of the same gender getting married, I do.”
