The embargo did succeed in killing the idea that a similar centralized socialist economy could work, in fact they are now embracing aspects of capitalism.

This way we don't get to know what Cuba could have become, regardless they have given a lot to world considering their size and the pressures of Tio Sam.

Oh fuck, why bother...

Some old parasites in southern floriduh are still angry that the people of their nation came together and took back what was theirs all along, and expressed that anger through generous donations to politicians, and the rest of the nation suffers.

I wonder if Cuba would welcome an American expat?

We met lots of americans there when we visited the island.
We loved the island and the people, you should visit.

but not so sure about plenty of Americans - loads of Canadians and plenty from here in Europe too. I've spent 6 weeks there in total so far and maybe go back again later this year for another 3 weeks.

And yawn no, I am not a wingnut/gusano/BATISTA/CIA-whatever. When the CASTROs and American 1950s foreign policy are finally done with each other, the Cuban people (like the Vietnamese) will be able to have their lives back. Probably one unpleasant form it will take will be to turn into a Las Vegas/Disney theme park.
