What Obama told Senate Democrats at retreat

President Obama huddled with Senate Democrats at a ballpark Wednesday, but the only game they discussed were the 2014 midterm elections.

Obama spent a good chunk of Wednesday afternoon at Nationals Stadium behind closed doors with Senate Democrats during their annual one-day policy retreat. He was accompanied by his new legislative affairs director, Katie Fallon, and new political adviser John Podesta.

The conversation “was more policy than politics,” according to one person in the room. There was a brief discussion about differences between Obama and some congressional Democrats about ongoing trade talks with Asian and European countries, “but no disagreements,” said the person, who was not authorized to speak publicly about the meeting.

Most notably, the president “stressed how important keeping the Senate is this year,” this person said.

This country would go crazy in the hands or control of the Tea Party.
Too bad more Dems don't get that. Their personal principles seem to be more important than the country.

It's hard to get people excited when on very basic issues, politicians are ignoring and acting contrary to what one believes in.

Yes a Tea Party Senate would be horrible and needs to be opposed at all costs.

But when the Tea Party is just another side of the same hydra-headed corporate beast that Democrats too often represent too, it gets more than a little frustrating.

concern myself with things that present some likelihood of happening. Especially when the consequences are grave. Citizens United is but one example of the damage scotus can do to our democratic principles.
