(1,290 posts)It's makes me want to cry just reading it. I had to stop a few times so I didn't get overwhelmed. Those people are like me, and they may die because of that.
so I can read this later.
Thank you, dsc, for posting this.

(15,810 posts)has a partner from Russia. The partner immigrated from Russia with her then-husband and young child. They divorced here, and she fell in love with my coworker.
I don't know at what point she realized she is a lesbian. After reading this article, I'm just very happy that she is here. Gay rights in the US aren't perfect, but most Americans are downright enlightened compared to attitudes of some Russians.
Sad and horrifying article, but a well written one.
A heartbreaking article.

(22,336 posts)I heard about the "propaganda" law but the reality is so so much worse than we've heard. I felt like we shouldn't have participated in the Olympics before learning about how bad it is, but now I'm furious that we are there.

(68,918 posts)As much as I love them, I shut them off today...because you are right. It hurts not to watch, but I'll survive...which is much more than I can say for those who are brutalized for their orientation.
I cannot see how Johnny Weir can sit there, commenting on skating programs while this goes on.
I'm sorry I watched at all.

(53,959 posts)But, don'tcha know, we are all being duped by propaganda, things are all hunky-dory in Russia. They even had a drag show!! It's "all good." It's worse in the US!!
I find it odd that Weir is there too, especially given he has a family and I know his husband is Russian, but it does seem to be a conflict of interest, but to each their own.
