we've already started seeing lots of new clients.

Please take a few minutes to look at the food items in your pantry or kitchen cabinets. Are you really going to use that can/box of whatever? If not, please share with your local food bank. And what about personal care items that you might have gotten as samples or from a recent hotel stay? We can use all you've got.

Thank you to all who contribute to those in need.

We all wish our government would do more to help the poor, jobless and homeless. But, we can't wait on them to do so. We have to do it all the time.

Please volunteer your time and money if you are able.

we can't wait and we need to start helping those in our community.

I volunteer at two very small food banks that are faith based. One is also able to give clothing, blankets, and household goods to those in need. It serves between 40 to 60 families every Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. The hygiene bags are appreciated and most certainly a need.

The other one is food only and that one averages 40 families each Wednesday.

Sissyk, you so right that in your observation. If one doesn't have the time then money is good as the bank can buy the items that are most needed.

and our LGBT brothers and sisters are my major concern. Yes, all other issues are important, but with those two I can help no matter what our government does.

I also, my whole immediate family actually, work at a faith based homeless shelter. No government assistance. I can ignore the religion aspect in order to help. They actually assist in getting the homeless jobs and a place to live. Same with the local food bank. I can still donate my time, supplies, and money even though they are faith based because I see where it goes. To the people that need it the most.

Thank you for all you do, and the compliment.

There are a lot of homeless and/or poor pet owners who need help caring for their pets. And if you are a homeless person on the street your pet might be the only friend and protection you have.

It shows where the loyalties of Republicans lie in that they are willing to fund crop insurance for farmers year after year with few strings attached. But they are unwilling to fund unemployment insurance for working people, most of whom live in cities or larger towns except for a limited number of years.

The unemployed are, in this economy, no more to blame for their lack of a job and need for assistance than are the farmers when their fields flood and they lack a harvest.

But the Republicans treat these two groups differently, favoring farmers and punishing working people. Shame on the Republicans.

If I could have only one Constitutional amendment, it would not be to overrule Citizens United, which is about getting votes by spending big bucks.

It would be that every vote of the House and Senate regarding legislation (as opposed to a housekeeping matter, like adjournment) had to be with yeas and nays and had to be by majority vote. And yeas and nays had to be made easily available on the web where everyone knows to look. (Sorry, Thomas. gov. is like trying to find something blindfolded. It is the one and only place on the net where I can know the name of a bill and the date it passed and still not find the yeas and nays.) And then lets see if some slick speeches and TV ads still determine the outcomes of elections.

And yes, I do understand what that kind of Constitutional amendment would mean if Democrats were in the minority.

This will of a majority of USians is supposed to be ruling Congress, not the Republican minority or the Democratic minority
