The Public Sector Keeps Shedding Jobs

http://www.businessinsider.com/public-sector-jobs-report-2014-2

Just 113,000 workers were added to nonfarm payrolls, well under the 180,000 consensus, according to this morning's January jobs report.

The private-sector hired a net 142,000 workers, meaning that the government shed 29,000 public sector jobs.

That's in line with the trend as of late. The private sector is hiring and the public sector is firing.

Check out the chart from FTN Financial's Chris Low.

when we have openings we fill them from other departments in the county. We have people working for free. They are in some rehabilitative program. We have temps that don't get benefits or holiday pay. When they don't work they don't get paid because they get no paid time off.
The management got raises the last few years. One way they do it is to create a higher level position and move a manager into it paying them more but they basically are doing the same job as before. Us union members took two furloughs the last two years. We didn't get paid for those weeks. We got no raises the last three years and no colas. We have a new contract and are getting a 3% pay increase over 3 years but that is still negotiable in the third year.

I am happy I have a job but my salary was cut $20,000 a year two years ago. I am 2years 3 months from retirement and am better off then all those unemployed.
