(7,804 posts)Because otherwise there's this weird sense in which I have to take responsibility for my own creepiness feelings and THAT'S NOT FAIR.

(18,101 posts)I wasn't trying to suggest that you might be playing games. I just thought that edit was really strange.

(99,714 posts)I'm willing to entertain the possibility he did it but that's far away from saying he did.

(7,143 posts)indicates that the OP of the original "poll" might be a wee bit dissatisfied with its "results".
Quelle surprise.
Talk about trying to influence people.
It was supposed 2 B a poll, and now it's a link to an another anti-Allen thread.
I honestly don't know if he did it or not but the insults and tactics of some posters are really irritating the shit out of me.
"Oh this judge and jury know nothing but the one who agrees w/ me is totally fair and balanced! Oh this family member knows nothing, but the one that agrees with me is beyond reproach!"
All I want are unbiased facts and logic. Some here have shown me that I WON'T get that from them.

(5,580 posts)doubt for me to convict him of it. thats not to say that something could come up that would change my mind but i have doubts that there is anything out there that has not been gone over again and again. some may find him creepy but thats not what makes a paedophile.

(99,714 posts)Which is different from "he did it", "he didn't do it", and "reasonable doubt".

(5,580 posts)honestly in the end any opinion on the internets makes no difference anyway as its not as if an internet poll is going to have any bearing on criminal proceedings.

(17,608 posts)Justice doesn't always get it right, and we'll never know, 100%, but we do know that he cheated on his girlfriend with her daughter ... with a very large age difference between him and the daughter ... and at that point one is within reason to decide not to contribute to his future income from his movies. Just like I prefer to patronize one business over another because of how they treat their employees, for example, or even for how they treat their customers.
And having the creep factor out there due to what is known, he shouldn't really expect massive sympathy or credibility on the other count. Sure, if he was falsely accused it is an awful thing, but my god, the guy is rich and can go slink off the scene and live in comfort, unlike many other people who are falsely accused of crimes. So the attention paid to defending this guy's supposed innocence seems a tad misplaced to me. He escaped the law, whether guilty or not, but not society's approbation for his behavior. He has the money to deal with it, so tough shit.

(5,301 posts)There are no objective witnesses if it did, and no way to disprove a negative if it didn't.
At worst, he was a child molester. At best, he was still kinda creepy for getting into a relationship with his baby-Momma's daughter.

(8,028 posts)He's always bugged me since I first became aware of his work in the mid 70s.
I strongly suspect that he did it and I support Dylan Farrow; but what I 'suspect' and what I 'know' are two different things. This poll asks for an absolute and I can't give that.

(8,554 posts)Can you explain to me what possible difference asking such a question about "Woody Allen" might make? If I had the ability to type that little trademark symbol, I'd insert one right next to his name.
You are reducing the very tragic and serious crime of child sexual abuse to nothing more than an opinion poll.
It is not a subject be taken lightly nor made a game of.

(18,672 posts)What we do know:
1. Dylan is telling the truth as she knows it, and there is a strong possibility that it is THE truth.
2. Allen does not have as many sexual boundaries as much of the population, and has stated as such, and acted as such in the past. That does not make him a pedophile, but then again, it might.
3. Both Mia Farrow and Woody Allen are narcissistic, fucked up individuals.
4. This is a HUGE trigger for many sexual abuse survivors who have had their lives devastated because of not only being molested, but the aftermath, because there was no one who would believe them, or no one they could trust to tell, or they did tell and were made to feel like they were wrong for telling the truth.
5. This is a trigger for the very small minority of people who have been wrongly accused of sexual abuse, and have had their lives devastated because of it. This is an accusation you cannot and should not throw around, or pick up the ball and run with, without being completely sure it is the truth. (i.e.; The McMartin preschool case, for one.)
5. There are people with impassioned opinions on both sides, but not a single one of us, NO ONE knows what really happened.
6. Both Dylan Farrow's and Woody Allen's open letters were highly manipulative in the way they were written.
