start one that would require that we pay all elected members of the Senate and the House to be paid for the days actually worked.
This means they must be in Washington, DC, and available for any and all debates and votes or by any travel on official business that would have been approved by the body they were elected to.
Also, all visits by or to a lobbyist, and, those visits must be recorded on paper, and video taped and made public on a gov. web page.
No elected official may receive any gift of any kind from any lobbyist, or otherwise a political donor.
Obviously, the wording of the petition would have to be worded better than above

(4,734 posts)legally binding effect. The white house has a petition system set up and if you get 100k signatures (or likes, or me too's) I believe they state they will answer the petition. Again, not legally binding, but you will get the administrations position at least.

I would be willing to wager that you, like me, come up with the "Dreamy Idealist" personality type.
In other words... Ain't gonna happen!

(60,010 posts)try a search...you can write a petition and direct people to that site to sign.
They say they will deliver it.
While a petition does not have the weight of law, if a LOT of people sign one, it will get attention, cause the politicians know Facebook and Twitter subjects have a LOT of eyes.
And if you do a petiton, give it a catchy name, open a Twitter account with the name,
then post it to your FAcebook page and stand back.
