I was thinking of putting this petition on the whitehouse.gov/petitions web site. I know it isn't about anything Obama is doing, but if I can get over 100,000 signatures, then Obama could then relate it to the Senate and to the House. Any suggestions? You think it would be a waste of time? Good idea? -whatever! Thanks
The Senate and the House of Representatives are working fewer and fewer days every year, yet are still being paid the same rate, plus they keep giving themselves raises. This has to stop!
If we can get enough signatures on this petition, we may, at least, get their undivided attention.
Be it resolved:
The current salaries of the House and Senate members shall have their pay by the hour, computed based on their current salary.
This will be their base rate.
They shall be paid ONLY for the number of hours actually
worked. This will include the following:
a.) hours actually worked in Washington, DC,
during which time they must be available for all
debates and votes.
b.) They will be paid the same rate when out of town
on official business, which shall have been
approved by the complete House or Senate, as
applicable.
c.) Should either the Senate or the House allow the
Government to be shut down, then they shall
receive no pay until such time as they shall, on
their own time, resolve the problem and have the
Government back to work.
d.) Pay raises must be voted on by the voters during
a presidential election, and, if passed, shall become effective
on the day the elected president is sworn in.

You could zero out their pay and they would still end up a millionaire. It won't hurt to do this, but I wouldn't expect anything from it. They have lowered the number of legislative days, but they do work more then we are aware.
