Women Should Watch An Abortion Being Performed Prior To Having It
An opponent of HB 2036 e-mailed her lawmakers to voice her opinion. The Tucson reader shared the response from Rep. Terri Proud, R-Tucson. The reader called the e-mail "most inappropriate for someone who makes policy decisions for women in this state."
The e-mail, which has not been edited, said:
"Personally I'd like to make a law that mandates a woman watch an abortion being performed prior to having a "surgical procedure". If it's not a life it shouldn't matter, if it doesn't harm a woman then she shouldn't care, and don't we want more transparency and education in the medical profession anyway? We demand it everywhere else.
Until the dead child can tell me that she/he does not feel any pain - I have no intentions of clearing the conscience of the living - I will be voting YES."

(33,688 posts)an arthroscope can be pretty gruesome. What a disgusting reichwing shitbag. Why aren't doctors going six kinds of batshit about these shoeless goobers telling them how to practice medicine??

(39,961 posts)Why aren't more physicians defending their right to practice medicine? Why aren't these lawmakers being charged with performing medicine with out a license, because that's what they are trying to do.

(16,020 posts)It was part of the ob gyn rotation. It was a vacuum procedure http://women.webmd.com/manual-and-vacuum-aspiration-for-abortion
that was used and it was not bloody nor gruesome.
Someone watching it would probably think it was pretty benign so I think she has no idea what she is talking about..
I think she is buying into right wing descriptions of late term abortions of which I have no experience.

(11,931 posts)I remember that have some blood involved and body parts, but I supposed it could have been faked to make it more dramatic. I can remember having watch that in Philosophy class. Then the prof had a debate with himself pro vs con on abortion, to prove that you COULD debate both sides of an issue successfully. That was back in '83 or so.

(51,482 posts)it is awake and aware. She is covered from the waist down with a sheet and in the same position that she is whenever she has a gyn examine her. There is a tray of sterilized metal instruments and a small machine that removes debris via suction.
Maybe while women are being 'forced' to watch an abortion, they can also watch a live birth. I'm pretty sure, the abortion is less 'messy' and easier to stomach.
And the live birth is far more dangerous than the abortion.

(990 posts)have lawmakers watch both kinds of abortion, and then pick one.
sinkingfeeling
(51,482 posts)then they should have to view both the birth and abortion.

Hey Terry ... How about making all of your Raytheon co-workers watch a film of died and dismembered people, no ... children, as a result of the missiles they build.
Better, how about you being forced to watch a film detailing the horrors of a foster care and/or child protective system gone wrong, before you write another piece of legislation restricting access to family planning.

(5,359 posts)which means that there still would need to be abortions --for the purpose of "educating"? Or, does she mean that a videotaped procedure should be shown to patients? She didn't seem to address that. Significant omission of details there, IMO. Maybe just screwy logic.
