Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDid you get to share that special moment with someone today out in public?
If you did be thankful & please remember the people in many countries (I won't name them to save the apologists from having to show their true colors once again) that can't for fear of fines, imprisonment and or death.
The year is 2014 and this is still going on.

(53,959 posts)When he got up, there was a balloon saying "I love you!" and a box of candy that said "Drama Queen". Heehee. When he went to the car....a box of thin mints (proudly bought from the Girl Scouts!). He came home to a dinner I spent hours making mustard peppercorn rib roast, corn on the cob, green beans, artesian bread, and mashed potatoes. He found his card from the puppies (a pug humping a man's leg to the music of "It's your thang!" , one from the kitty and birds with a ninja cat singing, "Everybody was Kung-fu fighting!", and the card I left for him in the mailbox with a box of candy, that said "bee my honey!" I did give him one serious card.
I just had to share.
But yes, it is important that many of us are not treated as equals. That by something as simple as holding hands in public could get us hurt. Countries still execute us for being who we are. Today, yet one more country has now said, "we will throw you in jail for being yourself." We have those who tell us to "shut up" when we confront homophobia and heterosexism.
We have a ways to go.

(20,043 posts)You guys are so lucky to have each other! The food sounds delish--gotta get the recipe from you.
I never understood anyone being against two people being together--whether it's a same sex relationship, or interracial (back when that was a no no), etc. When two people find love it should be celebrated not condemned or hidden away.
yes, we still have a ways to go.

(10,893 posts)Almost a month ago, a girl who I was talking to in the Ukraine (via the site named UADreams) told me that she had to leave the site and move to Slovakia because of the violence going on. Unfortunately, the site does not allow its users to exchange personal info, so we lost contact. This really broke my heart because I felt like I got the farthest with her than I have with any girl I met here in America. We used to do video chats together, she always responded to my messages, and she always seemed enthralled to see and/or hear from me.
I met another girl roughly 3 weeks ago on OKCupid, and we talked for maybe the next 2 weeks. We met in person last weekend for some coffee, but that was the last I heard of her. She quit replying to my texts all of a sudden (which I found odd, considering that I told her once how it annoyed me when people randomly ignore texts). All of my pictures of myself on my profile are up to date, and our conversation we had in the coffee shop seemingly went smoothly. My only guess is that she probably found some other guy who she liked better, but I'm still left baffled at how that would happen so fast.
Now I'm basically right where I started: single, dateless, and frustrated with my bad luck. People say that it's better to try picking up women in real-life, but I honestly am shy around women. I sometimes get told that I am good-looking, and I frequently catch girls staring my way as I pass them by on the streets, at school, or at the store. But I was never really taught the swagger that it usually takes for other guys to get women. It's almost like rocket science to me how other guys can get their time of day while I am struggling.
P.S. I hope that LGBT community in Russia and participating in the 2014 Olympics stays safe.

(53,959 posts)You are not feeling sorry for yourself, you are still mourning. I wish you could see the cards, they would crack you up!! I tried to get the puppies to sign them with their paw prints...that did NOT work! So, I cheated and signed for them.
