She said that if the jurors bought the idea of self defense they would acquit on all charges. She thinks they may have voted guilty on the other 4 charges and will hang on the murder charge. Because of the Murder 1 charge they have to get 12 people to agree on the same charge (murder 1, 2, manslaughter, etc.). It is probably like herding cats to get them to all agree on one level of charge on Count 1.
That's at least once for her.

(1,655 posts)They could find that Dunn shot Jordan in self-defense, but that the danger had passed when he shot at the other boys in the car. So they came up with guilty on the 3 attempted murder, but somebody is going for not guilty by reason of self-defense on the murder charge.

(1,655 posts)If it was the degree that they were having a problem with, they would have come up with a compromise verdict... probably 2nd degree.

(2,201 posts)As much as some of us would like to believe there was some crazed, racist, juror that was holding out for acquittal, it's far more likely that the jury couldn't decide between 1st and 2cnd degree murder. It's even possible that 11 jurors were willing to vote for 2cnd degree, but one juror held out for 1st degree.
