He has been in town for a two week leave. Now he's on a plane headed back to Kuwait. be there for another five months or so. Glad I did my service when I was single. It's rough on his wife and kiddos. At least he can Skype them twice a week, all I could do is write letters, send tapes, and stand in line for 3 hours to , maybe, get a phone call home.

(1,832 posts)And Camp Buehring is remote but fairly comfortable. That Brigade from 4th Infantry Division will be home soon. (I assume he is Army, many of my students from the Army Intelligence school house are there now)

(312 posts)You and his own family have my highest concerns. This is hard on everyone. Tell his wife, from an old vet, that she is a hero for holding down the home front.

(8,614 posts)But he receives one box a week from his wife, and two from Loving wife and myself. I like to bake for him and always fill them with cookies, dried beef, fudge, cinnamon pecans, pecan pie bars and chocolate rum cake.
He complains that I am trying to make him, and the whole squad, fat.
Again, Thank You for offering.

(24,853 posts)No internet. No current news. Two week old VHS tapes of ball games. That time bridged the gap between "when men were steel and ships were wood" and the way things are now.
If you ever decide to do something for the entire squad, I'm in.
