As it screamed by outside our atmosphere.

might be interesting. The last time an asteroid came close we had that giant meteor in Russia, and were quickly assured it was "unrelated"

It wouldn't have lost a high percentage of its mass, simply due to its size. It would have made a nice big hole somewhere, probably in the ocean.

But, it was too far away for that to have happened, so it's not really important.

Hype is our intellectual enemy, distorting our world views, making us worry for naught.

but it was glitching like crazy and events were taking a long time to unfold with lots of yakking about background info, which was all very educational but wasn't the asteroid I'd come for.

Then one of the hosts said words to the effect, "We're about to go to live footage from an observatory. What you'll see is some small bright dots, and what you'll need to look for is one of them moving imperceptibly in relation to the others ..." *sigh* *click*

If I missed something more spectacular though my impatience, please link me up.

If you examine the Dubai Astronomy Clubs feed in the video, imagine a clock face superimposed on the field. At 32:10 in the video, concentrate on the field where the 2 would be on the clock. The Dubai operators will shift the images as they come in, looking for movement. The object I'm seeing is moving from the 2 position on the clock toward the 3 position. Eventually, the object I'm seeing moves out of the field of view around the 3 o'clock position.

Anyone else see that?
