Not only does he buy into the "vaccines cause autism" and "germs don't cause disease" woo, now he is whining about MSNBC concentrating on the Christie scandals.
No doubt Maher used to whine to his parents about the Watergate hearings horning in on watching Scooby-Doo reruns.

(11,936 posts)He once identified as a libertarian AGES ago and he was speaking in the context of keeping government out of people's bedrooms and letting people smoke marijuana... in other words, what most people who identify as liberal or progressive also believe.
Maher is pro-choice, pro-LGBT rights, pro-universal healthcare, pro-environmental regulations, pro-progressive taxation, etc. This "Maher is a libertarian" thing should've been a dead meme ages ago.

(11,936 posts)But I watch his show every week. Sometimes he will say something like "We liberals..." or "For progressives, what we think is....", stuff along those lines. I've even heard him identify himself as a Democrat before.
If you really want me to go out of my way to provide examples, I can do so. But I have no reason to make something like that up. The main point I wanted to make was that when he said he was a libertarian, that was ages ago, and he meant in the civil sense, not the Rand/Ron Paul sense.

If I eliminated horse's asses from my life, I'd have to avoid myself sometimes.
best answer here.
I think Maher can be a whole herd of horse's asses sometimes - that smug look he has when one of his jokes goes over well, his sometimes misogynistic crap he spews, all that but he can still make me laugh like practically no one else.
He is a great talent, and he is imperfect like all the rest of us.

(8,747 posts)He thinks he's smarter than everyone else, and delights in showing off just how smart he really thinks he is.

(18,402 posts)because I found him to be a truly egregious misogynist. That and the libertarianism and the smugness always made him something of a horse's ass in my book.

Seriously, they act like if they go one night without leading with it, he's gonna walk away from this and no one will notice. Time to move on to other dangerous Republicans and other things that are hurting our nation.
Like that Comcast deal....oh, wait, nevermind.

(16,399 posts)....if they tune in one night and Chris Hayes doesn't open with the usual 15 minutes of the same thing for the last month? I think we're well beyond that, and I think we're well beyond anyone salvaging Christie's national career. It's also not like anyone watching MSNBC on a nightly basis is gonna forget what a shit Crispy is and suddenly decide he's ok.

(26,549 posts)In the Valerie Plame incident.
Oh wait...
ProudToBeBlueInRhody
(16,399 posts)Second, Christie is not the darling of the GOP power brokers that Dim Son was. In fact, Dummy's brother is licking his chops when The Big Man goes down.
Third, I don't think MSNBC had any lack of coverage on Plame either....so it doesn't really matter, does it?
We've got midterms to win, and giving Chris Christie 50 minutes a night doesn't win us FL-13 or hold the Montana Senate seat.
jeff47
(26,549 posts)And Christie definitely was the favored GOP candidate. Lots of liberals are making noises about Jeb, but the GOP isn't.
They didn't have much coverage. They talked about it when something came up, but it would be months between reports. That doesn't drive the "He's corrupt" message home.
Besides, the constant coverage is due to new information slowly trickling out. Should they have shut up when it turned out the PA cops were in on it?
And yes, this does help in the midterms - Christie is refusing to give up his Republican Governor's Association role, and the constant trickle of corruption is greatly harming his ability to do that job.

(13,190 posts)Rehashing the same shit every night. Last night wasn't the time to be doing Christie in light of the Gordan Davis case.At least Chris did cover it at the half hour of his show but Rachel didn't even mention it on her show last night. She just rehashed the same stuff Steve broke on his show last Saturday the Port Authority cop that is a child hood friend of Christie.

(7,321 posts)with an occasional glimpse of clips that get posted from time to time, occasionally a few are actually funny.
But on this Christie thing, I'm in complete agreement. It's actually bizarre how much attention this one corrupt bastard in a sea of thousands of corrupt politicians is being given this much attention.
I think the Net Neutrality and the Comcast merger is a very very big deal, which also has extremely corrupt implications and a severe impact on consumers. Why isn't THAT the dominate issue for today?

During a performance of his comedy special "CrazyStupidPolitics" Thursday night, Maher announced a gift of $1 million to Priorities USA Action, an Obama-supporting super PAC. While he mocked the group's clunky name, saying it was "named by Borat," his publicist said that Maher was deadly serious about the donation and believed a second term for Obama was worth a million dollars."
