Ukraine: High Tension in Kiev as Deadline Expires [Live Updates]

Several thousand anti-government protesters clashed with police near Ukraine's parliament on Tuesday. Opposition leader urged president Yanukovich to pull back riot police. Clashes caused at least 4 dead, more than 150 injured according opposition. Government imposed a 2 hour ultimatum to protesters.

some of the protesters want to start a revolution. I don't know if there needs to be one or not. I guess that's for Ukrainians to decide. If the feeling of the protesters is an example of a lot of the sentiment in the Ukraine, it looks like they're going to have trouble holding things together. Some people are pulling one way, some are pulling the other way. Russia or Europe? I know which one I'd pick.

Extra time expected to last all night.

Its not really a matter of picking one - the country is more or less evenly divided north down the center with the west being pro EU and the east where the manufacturing base is pro Russia. Could be it will split like Czechoslovakia did. If it did so the western part would have an agreement with the EU with no guarantee of demand for its goods whereas the east would have uninterrupted demand from Russia. I have a feeling the east would prosper and either west would sink or effectively become western owned.

Next likely outcome is probably civil war.
