NC Governor McCrory hears it from a worker while grocery shopping. Gets that worker fired.

A Charlotte grocery store worker is out of a job after he insulted North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory (R) to his face.

The Charlotte Observer reported on a confrontation Sunday between McCrory and Drew Swope, a 45-year-old cook at a gourmet food store.

After realizing he was speaking with the governor, whom he disagrees with politically, Swope said he told McCrory, “Thanks for nothing,” and walked away. Swope said the governor was upset at his comment and began “yelling” at him. He said McCrory said he was a customer and shouldn’t be treated that way. He said the governor and his security team complained to the food store owner, who then fired him.

Acknowledging that he "did speak out of turn,” Swope doesn't begrudge the store owner for firing him. But he does find it "shocking" that McCrory “had me excluded from the workplace because I upset his feelings.”

A spokesman for McCrory told the Observer that the governor never raised his voice and that the fired worker actually made an obscene gesture, an accusation that Swope denied. The spokesman also said Swope has said “things about physically harming the governor as well,” citing a Facebook group for a planned protest where participants discussed burning an effigy of McCrory.

This worker got off easy for questioning the "king".

If a worker was someone who opposed Obamacare and publicly rebuked, while on the clock, a Democratic governor for for supporting it and was fired for it, would DUers back his actions?

When the guy was on the clock he represented that company and while in that position he was rude to a customer who happened to be the governor.

14. Sure, McCrory could have handled it with grace.

However the guy wasn't (officially) fired for the CONTENT of the message, he was fired for the rude tone he used to a paying customer.

While it would have made him a RW darling, I'd bet my annual salary that he would have been fired if he acted the same way toward Obama.

Back in my days as a Walmart cashier I learned to check my emotions and opinions at the door. I smiled the same for a customer whether it was a sweet old lady or a middle aged jerk with an attitude because that was my job.

"He said he was referring to a January Facebook page about a planned protest for a McCrory visit to Statesville in February. On the page, some commenters said that they should burn an effigy of the governor. One commenter wrote they could “kick (the effigy) around,” to which Swope replied, “square in the” (groin)."

I'm one of the protest "hosts" on Facebook and the conversation about "harming the governor" was on that page.

5. As a one-time salesclerk, on the face of it this worker failed at Interface With Public 101

I worked my way through college as a salesclerk. If I had behaved like that, I would have been fired on the spot too.

When you interact with the public you are the face of the business. They pay your wages -- you owe them a good job, which includes patience with jerks.

At least McCrory wasn't asking the hired help to line up for a smiley-face photo op.

7. For DUers not familiar with McCrookie...

here he is meeting Obama:

And calling a womens' rights protester into the middle of a busy street to hand her a plate of cookies:

And letting North Carolinians know that "lessons were learned" during the recent snow/ice storm, although lessons should have been learned from Atlanta a mere week (or two) prior:

And with campaign staffers, two of whom, at 24 and with no healthcare backgrounds, landed $85,000/year positions at NC DHHS:

But he's anti-puppy mill. I'll give him that, and only that.

Seems like a piece of, um, work.

Except the puppy mill thing. Still, a broken clock and all that.

I still would not have thrown away my job for him -- it's too damn hard to find another one in this economy.

All things considered, do it on your own time or you will find yourself with all the time in the world for your activism and no money to live on.

And if he doesn't have to resign in disgrace, we will kick him to
the curb in 2016. Unfortunately, NC does not have a recall option
for any elected officials.

Would I love to have the opportunity to tell that to McCookie to his face?
YEEEESSSS!

I hope folks help Swope out...and apparently there's already an organized effort to do so.

Even if the customer is not a governor, if a customers complains that you were rude you're going to have to tapdance your way out of it in most retail places.
