Holt Will Retire

Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ) announced that he will not be seeking re-election, the Newark Star Ledger reports.

"Holt, who lost the U.S. Senate primary in the special election to replace the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg last year, said he would not be stepping away entirely from public life, but made no mention of his future plans."

Dem Rep. Would Rather Run For Local Office Than Stay In Congress

Rep. Gloria Negrete McLeod (D-CA) announced that she would retire from Congress to run for San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors.

In the process Negrete McLeod, who is currently serving in her first term, won't seek re-election to Congress.

"I have chosen to seek election to the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors and not reelection to Congress," Negrete McLeod said in a statement on Tuesday. "This was a decision not made lightly. However my desire to represent this community locally, where I have lived for more than forty years, and where I have long served as an elected official won out. My federal, state, and local experience will allow me the opportunity to effectively represent the constituents of the Fourth District."

Negrette McLeod's district is safely Democratic. President Barack Obama won it over Mitt Romney in 2012 67 percent to 31 percent and in 2008 Obama won it over Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) 65 percent to 33 percent.
