Walker Aide Dismissed 'Crazy' Woman Who Starved In Mental Health Facility

DANIEL STRAUSS – FEBRUARY 21, 2014, 3:52 PM EST

A top aide to Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) dismissed a complaint about conditions in a facility treating the mentally ill with the words "no one cares about crazy people."

Other top aides brought a complaint a woman's family filed against the Milwaukee county executive's office concerning her death after being treated at the Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex to the attention of then-Walker deputy chief of staff Kelly Rindfleisch.

The woman, Cindy Anczak, died in 2006 because of complications having to do with starvation. She lost 22 pounds over roughly five weeks while staying at the complex, according to the Center for Media and Democracy's PR Watch in Wisconsin, which flagged the email exchange. Anczak's family filed the complaint with the Milwaukee County executive office in 2010.

That exchange between then-Walker deputy chief of staff Kelly Rindfleisch and other aides came to light as part of a massive document dump of emails from Walker's time as Milwaukee County executive. In the email, Rindfleisch forwarded the complaint from Anczak's family to other Walker staffers.

... surrounds himself with similar thinking sycophants, all playing to a rabid base that laps up the punishment Walker metes out to the poor, the week and the sick.

With each new revelation of vote "caging", racism or bigotry, Walker's base cheers and fires guns in the air. This is the meat-and-potatoes of his appeal.

this? If not maybe an op-ed or a letter to the editor? Main stream media will only cover these things if we force them. I wonder if an advocacy group for the mentally disabled would push a local station or paper to cover it?

It would be ironic if her comment spurred reform. Nothing has been done since Reagan emptied out all of the mental institutions and threw them in the streets.

to send these cretins into private industry. They have no credibility as defenders of their states, our nation or social values. Let's help them take off their masks.

during Tommy Thomson's reign of terror? In that case the client had a digestive disorder along with developmental disability. In MN we had children like her and we had feeding tubes inserted into the stomach so they could eat. My own daughter went from 40 some pounds to 89 pounds with the tube in and she is doing great at the age of 55. She is small but not starving. In Wisconsin the doctors did not put the tube in to the girl and instead tried to arrest her mother for starving her.

If these cases are similar then Wisconsin is still letting people die because they are not "normal". Someone should pay for this. Social workers? Doctors? Shelter personnel? Who exactly did not do what they could to give this woman a chance?
