"SNIP................................
CNN is planning to end Piers Morgan's primetime show soon likely sometime in March, The New York Times' David Carr reports.
CNN spokesperson Meghan McPartland confirmed Sunday night that "Piers Morgan Live is ending. The date of the final program is still to be determined."
Morgan took over for Larry King on the network in 2011, occupying the 9 p.m. timeslot. But in recent months, the polarizing host's ratings had cratered a fact he acknowledged in an interview with Carr.
Its been a painful period and lately we have taken a bath in the ratings, he told Carr.

(20,600 posts)in a way. Basically, he was doing shouting matches over that topic for months it seemed. People get turned off when they see that stuff too much. Maybe, I admit I am guessing here.

(3,813 posts)His stance on gun control was a big reason why he was canned. From the OP source:
Look, I am a British guy debating American cultural issues, including guns, which has been very polarizing, and there is no doubt that there are many in the audience who are tired of me banging on about it, he said. Thats run its course and Jeff and I have been talking for some time about different ways of using me.
The month of February has produced six of the program's 10 lowest-rated shows ever, prompting Variety to ask if Morgan was "shooting himself in the foot" with a continued focus on gun control.

Hopefully progressives here will get the message: feel-good gun control laws that do nothing to reduce the root causes of violence yet abrogate one of the important Amendments in the Bill of Rights will alienate much of the American populace.

(62,325 posts)He was implicated due to his stint as a reporter for one of the UK tabloids. He has denied it, but the scandal is ongoing and it's possible the Brits want him back there to question. His CNN job probably protected him for a while.

(14,747 posts)He edited the News Of The World (was Murdoch owned, shut down over the hacking scandal) but he is still most famous over here for editing the Daily Mirror, which leans left but in truth is no better the the rest of the UK tabloids.

(11,771 posts)I occasionally would watch Larry King, but Piers Morgan put me off before his first show even aired and I never bothered to watch. Admittedly though, I don't watch CNN unless there's breaking news and I am channel switching between them, MSNBC and local affiliates.
