Rocky Mountain High: Colo. Has A Billion-Dollar Pot Industry

http://readersupportednews.org/news-section2/342-198/22232-rocky-mountain-high-colo-has-a-billion-dollar-pot-industry

Gazing into the crystal bong, Colorado's future is looking pretty flush with cash, thanks to tax and fee revenues from pot legalization.

State legislators are reporting they expect legal recreational pot sales to fill the state's tax coffers with more than $118 million in the first full fiscal year since legalization, starting in July. Include medical marijuana taxes and the number goes up to $134 million. Overall, the industry is said to be worth nearly a billion dollars in sales in its first year.

<snip>
Hickenlooper said the state intends to use the bulk of the money for schools, substance abuse treatment and preventing young people from getting stoned. The latter will get more than $45 million in funds. By comparison, a little over $15 million will go into law enforcement and regulatory oversight of the industry.

Should put that money into general education. People will do what they want to do regardless of how many stupid ads they see.

Wish other states would see the light.

Repairing the damage done to mental health and addiction services by raygun. I attribute much of the violent crime in this country to our failure to address the needs of the mentally ill. Since raygun much of the mentally ill community end up in jail or prison instead of receiving the health care they deserve.

they passed a temporary moratorium on retail shops last year, it's supposed to expire next month and i half anticipate a permanent ban coming from them. they banned mmj dispensaries a few years ago, but voters overturned that.

i have lost track of how many breweries or brew pubs we have, but OMG DEMON PLANT!!!

i think people are getting real sick of the council's shit when it comes to pot.

county hasn't banned them, but they're moving very slowly.
