(3,813 posts)Opponents said they would continue to fight construction of the farm, known as Cape Wind, which would sprawl across 25 square miles of Nantucket Sound.
In announcing the much-anticipated decision, Mr. Salazar hastened to add that he was requiring the developer, Cape Wind Associates, to take several steps to mitigate possibly adverse effects on the environment including views from the Kennedy Compound National Historic Landmark, which overlooks Nantucket Sound. Those steps include adjusting the turbines color and configuration.
Opposition to the proposal from Senator Edward M. Kennedy, who died in August, had been a major thorn in the Obama administrations side in advancing the project.
Senator Kennedy was in favor of wind power until it came to his location.

They have such a thing about the Kennedys, especially Ted, who had the nerve (in their eyes) to live past 60. Surprised to see it here, though, littlewolf. (First Nations, by any chance?)
As the article that you linked clearly states, a number of the objections raised by TK were addressed before the project got the go ahead. There was also the issue of privatizing public lands, to which Robert Kennedy, Jr. has objected, along with the potential for adverse long term impact on the local economy. And then, there is the general fragility of the Cape Cod ecosystem and the fact that no one could figure out why so many Cape residents, especially women, were getting cancer.
And a tiny, fragile spit of land, engorged with tourists from May to October, is very different from Texas and a lot of other places where a massive wind farm would have made a lot more sense than it would have made on Cape Cod.
Besides, Kennedy had not, for years, been doing, as to wind farms near other people's homes, what this guy had been doing as to fracking near other people's home. So, it's one false equivalency upon another false equivalency to compare Kennedy and a huge wind farm on the Cape with this Exxon guy and fracking in Texas, isn't it?
Republicans seem to specialize in false equivalencies and their kissing cousin, comparing apples and oranges. But, again, I'm surprise to see it here. And you can Write that Down.

I miss TK he was a champion, (not sure what he would make of ACA
but that is another kettle of fish.)

(45,251 posts)what you were trying to say about Ted was obvious. My point was that I think you could well be wrong about his motivation.

(9,214 posts)The conversations going on in this guys head must be fascinating.
Work Rex says this is a good place to build our tower for fracking.
Home Rex says that will block my view, has nothing at all to do with contaminating my farm's water supply, fracking is safe.
Work Rex says your view is a small price to pay for cheap energy.
Home Rex says, "Cheap, energy hasn't been cheap for 20 years, oh wait, I'm rich, who cares about the price. I'm going to sue! It's about the view... you know."
Work Rex says, "You can't sue over the view! How will it look? Besides you're suing me and I'm you."
Home Rex says, "I don't care who you are, it's about the water quality for my horses, but don't tell anyone. Let's just say it's about the view. As for the 'you being me' thing, my wife says she doesn't like the 'work' me anyway."
But why didn't he quietly behind the scene just get the tower moved? For a company of this size, I would think this would be a small thing. What good is being the CEO if you can't do something that small? As far as that goes I can't believe anyone allowed the tower to be spotted there in the first place, nobody in the company chain of command knew the bosses horse ranch was there?

The water tower is owned by another company, Cross Timber Water Supply Corp, which has set up operations on his road to supply water to all the frack sites. Sounds like they didn't make the connection, but surprised it wasn't moved.

(490 posts)Ted Kennedy pulled a stunt like this. He was part of a lawsuit that blocked a wind farm in Nantucket Sound. The millionaires said the offshore wind farm would ruin their view of the ocean. They blocked this project for years. Thankfully (in this case) they lost.
