American Family Association Is Outraged Over 'Profanity-Laced' Ad That Uses The Word 'Hell' Once

TOM KLUDT – FEBRUARY 24, 2014, 2:36 PM EST

It doesn't take much to get the American Family Association all worked up.

The latest source of outrage came Sunday during the Daytona 500, when an ad for the Dodge Ram pickup used language that was deemed too salty for the folks over at AFA.

"A man will ask a lot of his truck. Will it tow that, haul this, make it all the way over the top of that," the ad's gruff narrator said. "Well, isn't it nice to know that the answer will always be, 'Hell yes'?"

The one-time use of "hell" — or "h-e-double hockey sticks" for the easily offended —was enough for the AFA to label the ad "profanity-laced."

Of course the word 'hell' is never spoken during a church sermon. sinkingfeeling Feb 2014 #1

You expect them to be a bunch of vampires who live in a castle.

I mean, with "fuck" there's "intercourse," and with "shit" there's "fecal matter," but...

what's the polite specific technical term for "hell?"

When I was about seven, I remember pondering the mixed messages I'd already gotten about whether "hell" was a bad word, and I decided that since it had shown up in a Sunday school activity, it wasn't. It's a little weird for a Christian organization to complain about a word that Christianity brought into our vocabulary in the first place.

Twisting balloons for tips and handing out my card. The street magician close to me had the greatest line I had heard in a while... "This is a family show, so get your asses over here!"

AFA heads would have exploded.
