Santorum endorses Obama over Romney

BREAKING: Mitt Romney confirms he is Mr. Etch-A-Sketch

by Jed Lewison

Rick Santorum says sticking with President Obama might be better than electing an Etch-A-Sketch:

If you’re going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate of the future.

And Mitt Romney responds with disappointment and horror:

I was disappointed to hear that Rick Santorum would rather have Barack Obama as president than a Republican.

By the transitive laws of Republican ass-clownery, I do believe that Mitt Romney just confirmed he is in fact Mr. Etch-A-Sketch.

8. The people who vote for Rick Santorum

Wouldn't vote for Romney unless they were held at gunpoint. I live in the South. Romney has a snowflake's chance in a Southern August to win here.

They can't even stir up racism hard enough to overcome the fact that Romney is a Mormon, since Southern Baptists and Evangelical Christians think he's a cult member. Note that I'm a Democrat and don't necessarily endorse such views, but I am telling it like it is.

I know some hard right people here, and they will stay home before they vote for Romney, and they aren't playing when they say it. My parents refused to vote in the Republican primary, which is something I've never known them to do.

if he can't somehow get the nomination now through brokered convention or whatever.

and based on how Republicans often nominate previous losers he has a good chance.

Santorum can also use the "i told you so" "moderates don't win' argument.

That might actually turn out to be a real blunder by Lil' Ricky.

Wonder if he'll try to say he didn't mean it. Maybe he'll say:

'What I meant to say was, they're both rather blah.'

9. Santorum has the Southern Evangelical Christian vote

in the bag, and Newt will take his share of the Southern "we pretend to be rational, but we are really just racists" votes.

Romney won't get those votes in the South. Religion trumps race for a lot of Evangelical Christians, and Mitt is viewed with extreme suspicion for a multitude of reasons.

He really really dislikes the man. I wonder if this is partly that the Romney campaign is putting lots of pressure on him to drop out.

Even Lieberman, when he dropped out disappointed that the Lieberman wing of the party could meet in his house, did not say he preferred Bush to Kerry - though he was not all that helpful.

17. He didn't go that far in 2004 - he was a lousy surrogate for Kerry, but he did not say he preferred

Bush. As a surrogate for Kerry, but he kept praising Bush on his courage on Iraq. He favored Kerry on everything else - and on Iraq, he misstated Kerry's position (not helpful) to one closer to his. This led to the campaign not continuing to use him. (In 2006, he was horrible to Kerry when Kerry/Feingold was debated - and Kerry and Feingold were the only two Senators not to support him over Lamont.

In 2008, Lieberman endorsed McCain and was a surrogate for him.
