Former Montana Gov. Schweitzer joins MSNBC as contributor

Source: Associated Press

Former Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer said Thursday that he's joined cable news channel MSNBC as a contributor.

The Democrat's first appearance in his new role came Wednesday during an appearance on "The Ed Show" in which he discussed a segment on the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline. Schweitzer is an outspoken proponent of the project to ship oil from Canada to Texas Gulf Coast refineries, putting him at odds with many Democrats.

He's appeared regularly on various news programs since leaving office in January 2013. In those and other public appearances, he's strived to portray himself as a "common sense" politician with little regard for party lines — a stance he said Thursday that he intends to carry over into his new role.

Rumored as a presidential hopeful, Schweitzer has visited the key Democratic caucus state of Iowa but has made no formal announcement about whether he might run in 2016. He told The Associated Press that a run is "something I might consider in the future."

It goes to Port Arthur and Nederland. We've had many pipeliners working here for many months. Stopping the Keystone here is moot. I'm sure there are limited sections that have to be negotiated to completely finish the project in different areas of the country. So, basically it's a done deal. Now for anyone who believes that WE, the US, are going to receive any of that oil, I've got a bridge to sell you. That is a multinational oil company's product going onto the international market. The pipeline had created lots of construction jobs all over the states.

I've listened to Gov. Schweitzer speak many times on Ed's show. I like the guy and he does bring common sense to the table.

Now, if you want to do something about pipelines, I'd say investigate the issue and see how many are in the ground that could fail at any moment. I'm sure the conservanazi leaders of that industy has bribed it's way out of being inspected. We have thousands of miles of pipeline in the ground that could take out a community because of failure at any time. I'm willing to say that many haven't been inspected in YEARS are can fail at any moment. I see that as an issue.
