and I've seen some non-productive ones. Same goes for conversations about misogyny and related topics.

The more I think we need to have these conversations.

Talk about wanting to try and squash productive conversation. How the hell did things get so danged twisted?

Numerous DU cliques aren't interested in "productive conversation." Makes the OP somewhat ironic, considering.

povs, although I've told to 'get lost' when I expressed an opinion from a woman's pov by a 'feminist' recently. Didn't bother me in the least I have to say, I will always express my opinion as a woman. Too many women fought hard so that I could feel free to say what I think about anything.

Talk away, too many things are 'forbidden' even right here on DU.

you directed your comment to me, that they 'liked to see racist, misogynistic, homophobic posting here at DU'? That comment seemed very out of place unless you meant it for someone else?

but a conversation doesn't look like this:

"Your wrong! Nope! We are completely right and you are in denial!!!! I cant hear you lalalala"

which is how is seems to come to those of us who may hold a slightly different philosophy on it(not talking about you).

I sure I am considered to be on the other side on this issue, even though I am not. I believe white privilege is real and needs to be addressed. I do not believe is covers 100% of the white population regardless of everything else.

White men are more privileged in the US. Not all of them are though. One could say all are because those in power prefer them over others.

This problem is not solely evident in one group. A group consisting of Jewish people may prefer those who are similar and in circles where they control power it is not about skin color but heritage or religion. Christians controlling something may feel the same. Black, Asian, etc and so on.

Core issue that exists to be exposed and to educate others on boils down to those using their own prejudice as a means to make a decision. Guns are good example, if you are hiring, doing door to door polls, whatever, do you treat someone different if you know they own a gun (and base your reason for treating them different based on what less than one percent of that group does).

Yes - I know some of those issues don't deal with how someone is born but is a choice, but the underlying commonality is based on ignorance and personal prejudices. That is the root of power issues - they start with one person and blossom out into many others. Someone of group x did you or a friend wrong, you are now suspicious of the motives of all such people in that group.

When you restrict the commentary to one group and deny it in others one wonders why it is so narrow. It is evident that many white males in this country have had it easier (any history book shows that and I think most people have at least read some history) and that until we have a more natural balance in the core structures of our country this will not completely change.

But that change does not remove the overall problem as others in power will do what they and others have always done, use their position to show preference to people they prefer and makes them feel more comfortable.

mental masturbation. In other words, it doesn't seem to lead anywhere. It's like, "You are a white person, and privileged!"
"Ok, granted, now what?"
"Just keep it in mind!"
"Hmmm, ok…"

This often can result in people seemingly finger wagging and trying or implying to make others feel guilty solely on account of being born white, which doesn't make any sense.
