DANIEL STRAUSS FEBRUARY 27, 2014, 3:18 PM EST
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) cautioned against going too far with certain language to criticize President Barack Obama.
"There are times, and I don't think it is our movement, but there are times when people are using language that shouldn't be used," Paul told tea party activists according to The Washington Examiner.
"I will say that we can disagree with the president without calling him names," Paul said.
Republicans had to deal with the fallout of that kind of language after Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott (R) received criticism for campaigning with conservative rocker Ted Nugent, who called Obama a "subhuman mongrel." A number of top Republicans said that Nugent's remarks were over the line and the criticism was enough to result in a testy confrontation between Abbott and CNN over Nugent's past remarks.
