Only 4 of 16 NCAA basketball finalists DON'T broadcast on Limbaugh stations.

Last year BYU was the only university in the final 16 of the NCAA basketball tournament not broadcasting on a Limbaugh station. This year 12 of the 16 finalists broadcast on 37 Limbaugh stations.

If you want to cheer on the universities in the tournament that don't broadcast on Limbaugh stations here they are: Marquette, Cincinnati, Ohio, and NC State.

33 of the final 64 broadcast on Limbaugh stations. Many of the rest broadcast on right wing radio stations that don't headline Limbaugh. Michigan State and North Carolina both broadcast on 7 Limbaugh stations. Ohio State is on 6 and Syracuse is on 5.

The list of 76 Universities for Rush Limbaugh (on 170 Limbaugh stations) can now be amended to include 3 more universities ( Duke, Uni of Southern Florida, Montana University) on 5 more Limbaugh stations.

Stations that broadcast Limbaugh are partisan Republican megaphones, coordinated nationally and locally to sell the GOP agenda. For 20 years they've been doing the groundwork repetition for Karl Rove, ALEC, the Koch Brothers, and the right wing think tanks. They will be working overtime this crucial election season, attacking Democratic candidates and obstructing action on climate change, health reform, and any other major reforms progressives want.

On the local and national level their talkers regularly attack teachers, professors, and anything to do with public education. They fight all attempts to increase education funding and can have a big effect in local elections of university regents.

The association of US universities with hundreds of right wing stations has been essential to maintaining the GOP radio monopoly. Broadcasting athletics from a Limbaugh station is an endorsement of Limbaugh and the GOP in the sense that the athletics programming attracts local and national advertisers to those stations. It gives those stations community credibility and prominence and a competitive advantage. The Montana Grizzlies broadcast on KGVO, which calls itself "The voice of the Grizzlies". The University of Colorado Buffaloes broadcast on AM 850 KOA, which announces during games "850 KOA, home of the Buffaloes and Rush Limbaugh".

Those universities need to reread their own mission statements, which in most cases would prohibit the association if taken seriously. Universities are 'requiring' some of their students and faculty and fans to listen to those stations. They need to find alternatives. To argue financial motives for continuing to associate their athletics programs with Limbaugh and partisan political talk radio is as unacceptable as the excuses coming from Limbaugh's national sponsors.

The petition to get the North Carolina Tarheels off of 7 Limbaugh stations has 1126 signatures so far.

Petitions and protests are needed at all universities that continue to support Limbaugh and right wing radio. This isn't a free speech issue. Those universities need to reread their mission statements and dissociate themselves from hateful racist, anti-science right wing radio if they want to honestly continue to call themselves institutions of higher learning.
