The pro-Santorum rant by pastor Dennis Terry seemed to have particular ire for Buddhists that I couldn't figure out at first. Then I remembered that there is a large Vietnamese population in Louisiana, and I wondered if maybe many of them are Buddhists and this was a swipe at them.
Maybe someone can help me here.

(16,856 posts)There are a good many Vietnamese here in Biloxi and some other coastal towns as well. They have a Buddhist temple here in town, but there are a few different Catholic churches that serve them. I was told once that about 80% of Vietnamese are Catholic; I don't know if that figure is accurate, but Catholics definitely make up the majority.

(41,991 posts)Some are Buddhist certainly. But what impressed me is his lack of understanding about what one actually does in various religions. Buddha is not a deity and isn't worshipped. Allah and Jehovah are the same god. I thought preachers these days had at least a little seminary. Or maybe he knows full well and is just in full on Elmer Gantry mode.
