The United States spends almost as much as the rest of the world combined! Now imagine if we spent this money on hiring better teachers. Or providing cost-free health care. Or expanding our libraries. Or . . .

“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.
This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense.
Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron.”

It all goes to the fucking profit margins of these incredibly greedy war contractors - Halliburton, KBR, Boeing, Raytheon, you name it. We live in an economy driven by war - we should be locking up and investigating thesr scumbags for war crimes and until we do nothing is going to change. It's truly disgusting that all our social safety nets are crumbling but we can always find $700 billion a year for more war. We truly are run by insane psychopaths.
